To me the thing with Almeida is people love the idea of Almeida but not what he actually is. In fact he's been so consistently not good enough to where he needs to be that he's basically been so harmless that people have barely bothered to assess him objectively.

It's funny you say this because you always mention 2024 Tour de France when you say Remco can win it. Almeida was in the top 5 in that Tour 🤔

The most ironic thing is that Almeida finished almost the same distance from Remco as Remco did from Pogacar

I never said Remco could win the TDF because of his performance in 2024…

I've always said I don't see Almeida winning a GT, but I think he's one of the top 5 riders y stage races.
Isn't Almeida more a top 5 rider than Remco a top1 for a Tour? And interestingly, there is more consensus on this probability.

He's not a GT winner, but he's very consistent in GC. He almost always finishes in the top 5.
He's more consistent than TAO, Hindley or Hesjedal.

Is someone who doesn't win a GT but someone taut is regularly in the top 5 against de best riders (no in a Giro or Vuelta against random rivals) isn't one of the top 5?

In LRCP giro preview Broe did call Almeida clearly the third best GC rider and called him "underrated".

Just a tidbit off season chatter.

Almeida dropped Vingegaard 2–3 times last year. He had a good Vuelta, relatively speaking, despite awful preparation and getting sick during the Vuelta.

And if that isn’t enough, the sheer numbers showned the rise in his wattage throughout the year, for those able to read em that is. Almeida is easily the third-best GC rider going into this season. Imagine if anyone struggling with that.
