Thanks. Who is we?

Edit. Kristoff dopes because his stepfather is a doctor. Dekenkolp dopes since he is from Eastern Germany. Sehr logisch.

Could John turn himself into a green jersey winner as he seems to do well on climbs and obviously isn't that far aback in a bunch sprint. Ok so now he has a double its unrealistic as a target but if he rides the tour Kittle can cope without him some days if he gets in a break(not sure he's riding Tour).

Not sure why this is in the clinic, but, imo he certainly has everything needed to challenge for the green jersey. The problem is what he would do in the stages that Kittel is targetting? Would he be last lead out and try to hold on for as high a position as he can? Would he be given a free role and try to find a good wheel for himself? He won't get anywhere near enough points from the tougher 'sprint stages' alone; he'd also need to finish top 5-6 regularly in the easy sprint stages to finish above Sagan.

I think he definately could. If he valued it high enough and made it a main season aim, even chose a team to help him accomplish that goal. And Germany is one of those countries where the riders are more likely to value a green jersey in the Tour over anything outside July. Didn't T Mart once say he would rather win a stage in the tour than a non Tour gt.

But some riders from these countries don't necesarily have this one dimensional obsession with the tour and from what I have seen from Degenkolb in his career, he seems to me to be one of these riders.

I personally think he'd be a massive threat to Sagan. The Kittle scenario is not perfect but Kittle can't pick up points on bumpy days let alone mountain stages so JD could be a great lead out on flat and still finish top 8 imo. So in all a genuine threat to Sagan. Only thing is PR and MSR are way bigger than green. Winning them back to back is a massive ask and requires some luck. Anyone know if he's down to ride Tour?
As for clinic sorry I'm not sure he's doped, call me naive but I've always thought of him as a clean rider.

You have to say that most good German riders have been groomed in the same facilities in eastern Germany that already groomed riders like Ullrich, Klöden and Zabel, their developmental system is still very similar and they always seem to produce sprinters and TT specialists.

Good response, welcome to the Clinic, too bad we work that way. ;)

Ok then. Tell me who here has accused Degenkolb of doping, considering "the whole clinic" is doing it?
Dont worry, it is just that idiot from Degenkolbs Heimland.

Who again is accusing Degenkolb? Only those idiots whose idols have been accused, silly boys.

He needs to go to a team where he gets a team behind him for pan flat stages too, instead of working for a superior sprinter on the flat ones, and thus losing valuable points.

Hard to be on the wrong end of a joke, right? But only full blown morons like you can´t accept/see it. Lashing out is ok for you, but not taking... How is that some few Holländers like you are sooo overly thin-skinned? Bad childhood? Inferiority complex?

the link i posted above contains some interesting statements from Juergen Tschan about doping in the 70s.
Says with the program they had back then you couldn't compete without doping. It was necessary.
Amphetamines, cortisone. Riders injecting themselves with cortisone and other unspecified thing.
Says cortisone, if you take a lot of it, has the effect of amphetamines, i.e. it keeps you going. Says 90% of the peloton was doing it. Says that at the end of his carreer, especially in 6-day races, he took dope almost everyday.

Lol at Degenkolb, who intervenes in an attempt to draw attention away from the elephant in the room. Says he doesn't care about 'the doping problem' in the 70s, he simply admires the riders from that era because of the adventurous character. Then comes up with some (literally) fantastic circular logic: says he's clean now because times have changed. (no, that's not a bad translation, he actually says it).

What is the role doping played at the time?

Tschan: It was widespread.

Degenkolb: The way how I admire the riders of that time for the sport that has nothing to do with the doping problem. I think the adventurism of yesteryear is cool. But I run sport clean today because times have changed. [ ]

Tschan: The program that I have just described was not doable without taking anything: racing, driving through the night on car, two hours of sleep, to race again.

Stimulants?

Tschan: Yes, that was the doping of the time. Amphetamines mainly or cortisone. High doses of cortisone acts like amphetamines. You no longer sleeps almost three days. Epo at that time did not yet exist. In the six-day races I have taken at the end of my career I took something almost every day - like 90 percent of other drivers as well.

Plenty of 'new age' comments from Degenkolb in that interview.
Degenkolb: "A lot of things have changed in cycling." Ehm, like what exactly? crickets.

QS: "you, kittle, and martin have sworn to ride clean nowadays. How is that received in the peloton?"
Degenkolb: "many riders want to join our boat. Our credo: results, yes, but not at all costs..."

Meh. They dope, they obviously don't say they dope, they obviously say they don't dope, so they obviously say some *** about changing times and whatnot. As long as they keep the *** to a minimum and don't go aggressively out there insisting they're clean and just training harder while other people have a coffee, I'm ok with it .
