fastest roubaix ever is more of a reflection of tires that are too big for even cyclocross, not to mention aero everything, which has the cumulative effect of not just lower rolling resistance but also less fatigue. It's really changed the nature of the race. In mtb XC, more capable bikes have been countered with more challenging courses. But Roubaix remains Roubaix.
I think with climbing silky Swiss alpine passes to ski lodges, the best bikes really haven't gotten much better in terms of performance for decades. But if you don't realize modern bikes are that much better on rough terrain you haven't ridden one in the last few years.
