only 1861 VAM? he did a 2000+ on a road stage in Itzulia for a similar length.

He did 2200+ m/h of VAM on the steep part and around 1500 m/h on the shallow part (that included one almost flat kilometer). These VAM numbers are insane.

1861 VAM at 7% average, starting at 600m elevation equals to 7.2+ w/kg ( ferrari formula)
Edit: keep in mind this is all after 16k of 'holding back on the flat section' while gaining 50' on Pog

nah he knows way too many riders for it to be Lance
Armstrong never had a performance that was even remotely close to what Vinegard did today. It`s beyong anything ever imaginable. The amount of watts he must have produced today (asuming no motor) both in absolute numbers, as well as in comparison to the rest of the competition is simply ridiclious beyond the limits of nature.

Vingegaard's VO2max was tested at 97 when he was 17 years old.

I've seen other articles where Team Danmark also state he tested abnormally high at the national performance center, the highest they've ever seen, like orders of magnitude higher than other pros. These were also tests conducted 5+ years ago.

This the first article I've seen where a number is stated. His father makes the comment:

"In 2016 Rasmussen recalls his son undergoing tests while riding for Odder Cykle club - the same team that helped develop future Tour of Flanders winner Kasper Asgreen, now at Soudal Quick-Step - which revealed that he had an exceptionally high VO2 max while still just a teenager. “They were testing all the guys in the team,” says Rasmussen. “I think there were about ten. They did seven of them and everything was normal, then they did Jonas and everything went out of order. He said ‘oh this cannot be right, I think my machine is broken’ then he tested three other guys after that and it was normal again,” he adds. “So it was not his machine, he’d just never seen anything like that before. At 17, Jonas’ VO2 max was something around 97.” Legendary Tour de France champion Miguel Indurain’s VO2 Max has been reported at anywhere between 78 and 95 millilitres per kilogram of body weight per minute."

There needs to be an eyeroll option in the "like" button. I find this sickening.

"Something around 97" says his father??? 97 is virtually the highest relative VO2 max ever recorded by any athlete -> VO2 max World Records. This is beyond Contador's performance on Verbier in 2009. Will be interesting if Lemond says anything? Poor Marco, his ADH record is on notice.

Why wasn't any of this mind blowing aerobic potential about Vingegaard made public prior to 2021 when he first appeared out of nowhere?

Yesterday I wrote I'd stop following cycling before Vingo won his 3rd Tour. I'll temper this prediction and just not bother watching any race Vingegaard competes at. This is just flipping the bird at the sport. Denmark should be embarrassed.

Today there is one guy coming straight out of living in Tjernobyl for 10 years and getting on a bike, just told do go absolutely crazy. Geiger counter went off the charts and still going, but impossible to measure anymore.

Then there is an alien.

Then from 3rd and downwards. The gaps seem quite "normal".

Well i guess test numbers are good since they picked him when they failed to get asgreen. not sure if 97 is the right number... if so Vingegaard would have come in like a bomb in cycling and not as a turd. (2019-2020)
He only started performing in 2021 and started really flying in 2022 and in 2023 he switched to a space rocket. (together when all the records were started to be broken on multiple levels by multiple riders,)

Vo2max is just one aspect of someones performance, but i have a suspicion that one needs to have at least a vo2max of 97 to be able to come close to his current performance (that and the highest pedalling efficiency and and and..).

Please tell him he's wrong. And tell me how.
Well in theory it would allow you to be less “on your limit” at any given power output, which means more oxygen available for your brain which means better decision making and ability to focus. How much of a difference (if any) it ends up making in actual practice is hard to quantify, though.

Thank god he wasn’t wearing his normal team speedsuit, could’ve been less close than it was.

Tbf there was, although it didn't really make it past the Danish borders.

I do, however, agree that this performance is one of the most insane TT performances of the sport

Long time no see Clinic.
I wasn't following as closely the Tour in the last handful of years and honestly I've grown a little numb over the tragedy of doping in general.
This year I didn't get to watch stages but I was interested, Vingo and Pog being so close at least made for an exciting story.

I suppose I don't have much to add or say than the same incredulity as everyone. Pog's lead is already... spectacular but Vingo burying him by the same gap is... what ?
I'm not gonna get mad and throw speculation about what exactly is happening here without evidence (that we have a good chance of never really getting) but I wanted to write about it and leave a trace, no matter how trite.
