Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

Page 86 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
How many people in history did the double tour-vuelta? 3? (Anqetuil, Hinault and Vroem?)

We might have 2 in a timespan of 5 years? And at this point it is hard to see around Vingegaard winning it.. but lets hope not, having only to skip the tour is doable..

From the Danish archives - 2019-2020 - interviews with Vingegaard before he rode the 2020 Vuelta:

August 22nd, 2019 after the Danish National Time Trial Championships (Vingegaard finished 22nd on the 39,8 km route, 2:49 after the winner Kasper Asgreen): "I'm satisfied. I think I rode a good time trial. Started aggressively and had a hard time keeping that up, but overall I'm quite happy as it's a big improvement compared to how I've previously performed in time trials. I had a hard time keeping my watts because of the wind resistance, but that's something I'll work on."

22nd in the Danish National Time Trial Championship 2019
I'm only catching up with the furious pace of this thread now, but that interview that you quoted was from PostNord Danmark Rundt when Vingegaard finished 7th 19 seconds down on Toft Madsen in the 17 km stage 2 ITT. As you can see here he was only 1 second down at the intermediate time check, so I fail to see what was wrong about that interview?

The national TT was a month after he broke his elbow, but we were over this last year. Of course he did poorly there.

He is an alien, the most ridiculous mutant of the peloton, but there's really no reason to pretend he was a Froometto rider until he suddenly hit the mega-dope.

I don't think the comparisions with Froome are necessarily justified either since Vingegaard at least had a decent level of talent, yet he wasn't a prodigy destined to go to the top by any means. Froome is unprecedented in terms of the beginning, the middle and now the end of his career and I doubt if we will ever see anyone make such a transformation again. Riders like Pog, Evenepoel and Ayuso undoubtedly had better pedigrees though.

My apologies! I just checked, and you are right about that - I made a mistake. Sorry about that.
Will correct the original post.

He already had a week break in the third week of the tour. I think we can be pretty sure that he isn't tired at all. (otherwise he wouldn't say he would do the Vuelta before the tour is over after Jumbo launched their preselection 2 days earlier with him not on there)

If that TT and Loze was rest for Vinge then I don't want to think what happens when he doesn't rest

nationalist agendas
As far as nationalism goes, I've only ever noticed it from folks who are on the side of defending their hero --- both implicit in their speech and explicit in their accusations of the doubters.

I remember before I ever paid any real attention to cycling, my dad (also not a cycling fan) explaining to me the controversy around Lance Armstrong as French people irate that a Texan would win their race. My dad and I are both from Texas.

So to me, whenever (anti-)nationalism is trotted out, it's simply a sign that we're on that stage of the cycle. But if you can't look back now at the laundry list of TUEs, a team that changed its MO overnight when the heat became too much to bear, and a prominent career that round tripped from packfill to world-beater to packfill, and see what the rest of the world sees, I guess your blindfold is never coming off.

He’s gonna train hard for a month and make the Tour-Vuelta a 12 week race because everybody knows how longer, the better his recovery.
He's going to pre-ride a couple laps of the Vuelta course starting tomorrow because he has the best preparation.

Yes, he said that they made the decision to go to La Vuelta last November.

I've a feeling he won't dominate in the manner a lot of people expect but it must be the most stacked Vuelta in recent years in terms of big names.

Thanks! I really hope it will be as a super domestique and not to push Roglic down. </3

I'm gonna watch it though, so many big names. I am usually more hyped for giro and vuelta than the tour. This year seems no different :D

well it will be worth watching just to see how the media try to explain the performances away, he wouldnt be going just to carry bottles and they can only use the once in a lifetime ITT performance line the one time.
