A tthis point the alarm bells are already broken from the last 2 weeks, after continiously ringing for the last 2 years. its called "background" noise atm.

Yes but not in the cycling media world, only on forums such as this. All we're fed from journalists and commentators is superlatives for the deadly duo Van Aert and Vingegaard.

True
But when these people are saying things like:

"Unbelievable'
"Never seen before"
"Lives on another planet"
"Motors away"
"Vroome vroome"

Well everyone should understand the point i think.

When is David Walsh going to open his mouth? Surely he can make some money when they make a film about this Jumbo team in 10 years time lol.
Then again, he lost credibility when he was defending sky!

The German ES commentators had it in their voice, the way they prolongued the syllables in "like from another star...", "everyone can make up their own minds about these performances", "I had hoped that after these exploits he'd show some weakness finally", stuff like that. Still appreciative and only mixed in between... Of course I don't expect them to accuse someone by name, but obviously it's impossible to actually say "I don't know how these performances are possible."

He celebrated in the last few hundred meters and still beat Pog
Pog lost less time to Vingegaard than last years final, so good news for him too. Still seems to be improving a little.

In seriousness though, relative to Pogacar, this performance was in line with last year.

Usual end of Tour ITT where the most doped (sorry, 'strongest' & 'fresh' according to the politically correct narrative) GC riders duke it out in the top 5 versus the rouleur tanks. Whether it's a 40km flat time trial & they're 60kg, it doesn't matter.

The recent Dauphiné clearly had zero relevance as a comparison, i.e. David Gaudu for example lost 47 seconds on Vingegaard in a 32km flat ITT last month. He lost nearly 3 minutes today (& Vingegaard eased off at the end).

People can explain the differences however they wish but that's a massive performance gap between those two riders. I make the comparison because Gaudu was 23rd in the Dauphiné ITT & 26th today. So he's somewhat consistent. Vingegaard meanwhile...

The tour is easier than working in a fish market.

I remember once upon a time I thought being a Vingegaard fan was the least complicated, because he seemed like a perfectly decent uncomplicated guy.

How hilarious!

He can be both decent and uncomplicated and doped to the gills at the same time. That's the way I view and accept a good portion of pro athletes anyway, otherwise I wouldn't even bother with following sports anymore.

The gaps in GC are alarming, almost 14 minutes to the fourth placed rider.

That poor 4th placed rider did well for what it's worth. I used him (Gaudu) as an example in my previous post, i.e. which even works versus Ganna as well.

Gaudu lost 1:59 on Ganna in 32km in the Dauphiné & 2:28 over 40km in the TdF. Both flat profiles. I find those gaps consistent based on the relative strength of the riders in question. Ganna might be tired but he wasn't racing the TdF at the front. Gaudu might have better 3 week recuperation but he's been fighting GC, so it could be argued their relative level evens out & the gap is what should normally be there if both ride full gas in an ITT (in good weather conditions as well).

But Vingegaard & Wout van Aert meanwhile gained an extra bucket load of levels over the past 6 weeks. I mean I've heard all the usual excuses over the past two decades (i.e. the most common one being the rouleurs are tired & the leading GC riders are strong at this point in a GT) but the fact remains both Jumbos have boosted their level & the others haven't - despite WvA & Vinge racing full gas non-stop for over 3 weeks.

Ganna still did a very good ITT, it's just the other mutants leapfrogged him to varying levels. Even Pogacar's ITT was phenomenal but nowhere near phenomenal enough, i.e. his time would have been considered fantastic 'if' it wasn't for the Jumbo anomalies in front (& yes, I do consider their performances over this entire TdF to be huge obvious anomalies which stick out versus their rivals).

Just read that Vingegaard wasn't supposed to be on the team for the 2021 tour. He replaced Dumoulin...

One wonders if he was such a big talent, similar as Froome ( :joycat:). Why were they not on the roster intially given their 'talent' (or about to get fired Froome)

edit: Might the be year he got on the stuff and he responded extremely well.
At least he won stuff and rode well before appearing at the head of the pack unlike Froome.

It should just not be possible for a 58kg rider on a 51kmh TT. Please show me the Quintanas and Bardets of this world do this. They all dope. But I just deeply dislike when something becomes absurd. Bulky guys like Indurain or Riis (>75kg) only started to become elite climbers with the rise of EPO/blood doping. Reaching ridiculous levels of skinniness (Rasmussen 07, Wiigins 12, Vingegaard), while keeping, maybe even improving power, to be at the top end of flat(ish) TTs is for me just the other side of the doping book. That’s obviously a subjective assessment but my clear opinion.

I actually did not like Pogacar since last year’s Tour win. But I have found myself fully rooting for him this year.

I'm not arguing he's clean, just that this shouldn't surprise anyone, looking at last years results.
