Teams & Riders Jonas Vingegaard thread: Love in Iberia

Bram Tankink said in Belgian show Vive le Vélo that Vingegaard had problems with eating after his win in the queen stage of Poland 2019, because of stress, and cracked. He doesn't look stressed at all this time but you never know before a TT, where he can't follow the white guy everywhere and has to finish it off. If he doesn't lose much time and survives today, it will be a deserved victory.

I could be wrong, but I think he might have been able to eat since Granon.

So it went as some of us expected, and were called crazy because of. Jonas showed last year that he can drop Pogacar on long climbs, in hot conditions, and confirmed it this year.

This could be a really interesting rivalry for years to come. The advantage could go either way depending on the routes and the weather. I wonder if Pogacar now will ride a more conservative spring, in order to bring a slightly higher level to the Tour.

Only because he didn't go the Olympics last year ;)

The Olympics was a big factor, so much sexual temptation with all the top, fit athletes mixing together and living close to each other. But also the 1996 Olympics was the same summer Riis won, the peak of his ego and popularity, and the Danish Women's Handball team won the Olympics that summer. Riis likely went to congratulate them/her and the rest as they say is history ;)

In my nearly 30 years of watching the Tour, I've never seen a dethroning like that, where the established king of the race, was beaten fair and square by another rider, while bringing his top level.

I guess 98 was the closest to feeling that way. When was the last time something like that happened?

Yeah 98 is a good shout, Pogacar made a big mistake chasing Roglic more than once on a key stage, we will see if he contains his aggression and rides smarter next year and if he can bring a stronger team

Yes, Ullrich had one terrible day which ruined his GC chances but overall was very strong. Kinda similar to Pog this year.
