Today both he and his DS came to the truth of being a solid 2nd place is Success. It's pretty amazing what he's accomplished with so little time to prepare. They should also be conscious that the last week could do some damage to the balance of the season if he's forced to go too deep. If I were their strategist I'd be sitting on Remco or 2nd tier challengers. Tadej and UAE may throw someone up the road but there isn't any reason to go nuclear to build the lead as the TT will provide a better signature win.Of course not, that would be weird.
I definitely don't think he came to the Tour not hoping to win it. However, he can be hoping to win - and doing the best he can to actively reach that goal - while fully aware that it's entirely possible that he just won't.
