They should also be conscious that the last week could do some damage to the balance of the season if he's forced to go too deep. If I were their strategist I'd be sitting on Remco or 2nd tier challengers. Tadej and UAE may throw someone up the road but there isn't any reason to go nuclear to build the lead as the TT will provide a better signature win.

Can anybody tell me what Tratnik actually has done this race apart from handing a bike on stage 9? Even on flatter days, I see Keldermania and Jorgensen in the frontlines instead. Tratnik has been MIA the entire race despite having decent legs.
He is a year or two younger. Most multiple winners since the dark ages seem to reach their absolute physical at 26-27. Contador 2009, Froome 2015. It’s possible Pogacar still had more room to improve. I’m not saying that’s the case, but it’s a possibility.

After suffering from - amongst other injuries - pneumothorax in Pays Basque, it‘s almost a miracle that Vingegaard is so strong in the Tour; also today. I feared he perhaps would never come back extremely strong.
His Tour preparation clearly suffered. Otherwise, he would climb with Pogacar until the finish line.

And definitely great ride today. No regrets, he did all he could. JV and Vingo executed their plan, the attack was devastating to everybody but one.
For sure, if there was no Pog we'd be talking about how Vinge is dominating this Tour.

There doesn't have to be any riding involved. Maybe he'll show up and put on a shot put show.
I know Jonas is a family man and all, but I thought his job was to win bike races for Visma. If he doesn't do the Vuelta, then theres basically nothing else to do the rest of the season for him? Maybe Worlds and Lombardia, but c'mon, thats usually not really his cup of tea.

And important to note: Jorgenson accelerated and only Pogacar was there. I've said this elsewhere but, after taking 3 minutes out of the break by himself on one climb to be able to launch like that is unreal. Given the chance to not be the tractor for this last week we could be talking about him in the same frame with Pogacar. Jonas should pay attention to that.
