Ah yes, no RR either. Weak and disappointing as usual when it comes to suiting up for the national team. But I lied, he aint calling it just yet - cause he's racing the European Champs, a race that nobody cares about!

Good grief man
I am convinced that at the last minute he´ll say that he isn´t going to the European Championship either.

It appears that, unlike last year, it was a decision he made in agreement with Mørkøv.
(Well, obviously Mørkøv wasn't involved last year, but... you know what I mean...)

I just don't get the drama about it. Pretty sure there's no rule stating that a rider must ride the World Championship at some point in their career. So what if he ends up never racing it? He's a stage racer...
Lol what, of course not, but he has said throughout the year he WAS going, the route is good etc etc. If he's not going this year, when is he going to? It would be absolutely hilarious if a rider of his calibre ended up with zero starts at the biggest one day race of the year even though he aint no specialist. Nah scrap that, not hilarious but downright pathetic!

There is no greater honour than representing your country, no matter what sport it is.

Vingegaard is proving to the Danes, that he is utterly selfish and doesn't give a crap about his country.

Tired after the Vuelta? - I don't give a toss, then you sacrifice yourself for Skjelmose as a dom - unless you are injured you ride for your country when called upon to do so.

Vingegaard has been one of the world's best riders for 5 years now, and not a single time has the put on the national jersey, not at the Euro championships, not at Worlds, not at the Olympics - not once.

Skjelmose might go and injure his back getting up from the breakfast table.
Or pick another fight with a random road sign.

I hope Mørkøv shows he has stones and doesn't select him for the Euros, just to stamp his authority on his new job as national coach.

Mørkøv. Is. Acknowledging. That. The. Euro-Route. Suits. Vingegaard. Better. Mørkøv. Is. Actually. Grown. Up. And. Knows. That. Riders. Aren't. Required. To. Ride. The. World Championships.

A road World Championship is probably the most important thing after the Tour de France.
For me, there's no excuse not to make a debut in seven years as a professional.

No trip or anything. Pantani wasn't good at one-day races either, but he went to Colombia.

The Danes don't seem to care here, but I remember Pedersen publicly asking Vingegaard to consider him this year. Skjelmose also asked him to. The big beneficiary of his absence, by the way, will now be Denmark's leader.
The European Championship is a minor race. It was more important to debut in at least one World Cup.

To be honest, I sometimes forget to count Vingegaard as a Danish rider. Since his breakthrough, he hasn't participated at national championships, nor at the Tour of Denmark, nor at the World Championships.

Let's see if he really goes to the European Championships this year. Cancelling will be easy.

He isn't a typical Danish rider - being mainly comparable to Michael Rasmussen who is a very controversial person in recent Danish cycling history. That's not a problem in itself, but because of his absence in so many national events, Vingegaard is a kind of outsider. Certainly, he hasn't given much back to his homeland so far other than satisfaction for TV viewers waving the Danish flag.

What are people yapping about exactly?
If I'm Vingegaard I'm not going to Rwanda two weeks after the end of a GT. All the vaccinations and other stuff...
I also wanted Pog to do the Vuelta and skip World's.
Instead he chooses to go to a dubious African country on a safari.
Give me a break.

I have the feeling that most of fans of Vingegaard, more than liking Vingegaard it´s for hate Pogacar
Apart from the Danes, I don't see anyone looking forward to Vingegaard's races.

I don't see Pogacar fans insulting Vingegaard with such vehemence.
But here, those who claim to be fans of Vingegard are the ones who have given Pogacar unpleasant nicknames.

Those who like Pogacar look forward to seeing him race. With Vingegaard, the feeling is that criticizing Pogacar takes precedence over supporting Vingegaard or wanting to see him in a race.

I, who am not a particular fan of Vingegaard, am disappointed because I was really looking forward to seeing him at the World Cup. I was really looking forward to seeing him perform outside of Visma and without an earpiece, and to showing that he was capable and not having that doubt that long races would be detrimental to him.

I'm disappointed he's not going. In January, he said he was determined.
A disappointment.

It's curious that those who like him the most care the least about not seeing him compete in a race as important as a world championship.

But he said it was his second goal of the season after the Tour. In preseason, he said his goals were the Tour and the World Championship. It's not like he's skipping the race like he did in Catalunya. This was one of his two main goals.
Please provide a source where he states it's a bigger goal than the Vuelta or words to that effect.

Or he might not, you can't know beforehand, and either way you show up for your country when called upon.

Mørkøv is saying what is PC - what's he gonna do? - Tell the world Vingegaard is selfish, when the plan for Worlds has been him as captain all year and he changes his mind?

Ultimately, as a PRO; you race for what's best for you and your team and the MONEY. Jonas may not want the travel and serious challenge of World's, particularly after the Tour. Some here suggest he's dodging another showdown with Tadej on a hilly course. It actually might be the ghosts of Visma-past that would be the scariest outcomes. Primoz is going for a reason.
