Teams & Riders Jonas Vingegaard thread: Love in Iberia

I suppose it might depend whether he/ the team actually think he has a shot against Pogacar at the Tour. I know at the moment they seem fairly far apart, but I'm always conscious that I thought the same, but in favour of Vingegaard, after the 2023 Tour.
Vingegaard can take next season's training from healthy footing based on this result. He should have fun racing the rest of the season and JV needs to fully figure out that strategy needs to be flexible to win a Tour. It'll also be a different season and everyone is at risk for being ill prepared. Everyone. He needs to race the Tour with maybe the Vuelta as plan B.

According to Vingo, he closed the gap to Pogacar, despite losing the Tour by 4.5 minutes:

It's way too optimistic but probably a proper way of thinking for a top sportsman. He lost a lot of time on his bad days but states that on his best days Pog couldn't drop him. He doesn't take into account that Pog likely also had some worse days (later in the race) plus Vingo in top form actually lost substantial time in relatively short Peyreguades TT.

Tbh even if you believe this I don't understand saying it lol.

He is crazy. Maybe his concussion in PN was more severe than we think.

I think Vingegaard performance overall was similar to last year but I rate 2024 way higher due to his troubled preparation. Pogacar IMO was circa 2 minutes worse this year than in 2024 (mostly due to the last week).
I don't believe we can say such things confidently.

For me the gap on the MTT was way too big for Vingegaard to confidently claim it wasn't a big gap, unless there's a certain confidence that if Pogacar has to go that hard he'll burn himself out fast.

It's just my perception regarding their performances. I actually agree with you: Vingo's 2025 performance isn't optimistic at all due to supposedly great preparation. In 2024 he was more impressive to me, all things considered.

Also, the gaps in the MTT and the Nice time trials don't remotely align. So I'm inclined to think Pogacar was at a higher level than 2024 at least on Hautacam and Peyragudes.
