PN and Pog’s slaughterfest this spring seem to have everyone off the hype train, but I’m sure we’ll see some earth shattering stuff come summertime.

Yeah, but also last year, both were in top shape.

I still am so surprised that Vingegaard beat Pogacar so clearly last year. I have no explanation. If Vingegaard repeats this, or even improves, then Pogacar (Pogacar!) will not have any chance, again.

Vingegaard really rode the perfect TdF in 2022. Was also first time a rider averaged >42 kms/hr there (final GC).

Since then, Vingegaard has been working on his mythos (tight-lipped, away from the spotlight).

He seems to be an old-school preparator. All on the TdF. That he even wins races in Basque Countrythen, indicates how good he has become.

Pogacar is super strong, yes. But last spring he was too. Vinge has a different performance curve throught the season but he's where he should be. Yes, we should get ready for fireworks in July, it could be even more epic than last year.

The most "scary" thing about vingegaard is that he appears to be improving year after year.

Jonas seems an introvert which explains why he likes to be away from the spotlight. I agree he is looking ominous and this further builds the anticipation for July. But as a Roglic fan, has it crossed your mind that Vingegaard's rise means Rogla will never win a TdF riding for the same team? He will be relegated to competing for the minor Grand Tours - and he isn't getting any younger.

On the bold, it is my belief that the explanation was what happened on stage 11 to Granon. Pog never recovered from that body blow and wasted massive energy with fruitless attacks all the way to Hautacam and the final TT where he suffered further. Grand Tours are about accumulating fatigue and measuring your efforts and when and where to attack. I am not sure that can happen again as Pogacar fell into the trap on Granon and the parcours this year is less favorable.

I think in stage races with Pogacar at the start (or any sort of race, really) Roglic will have a really hard time winning. Pogi is just better at pretty much everything. And then there's the added problem of Vingegaard, plus Rogla's not getting any younger.

Nonsense. Ask Tony Rominger if he would have swapped one Vuelta victory for a TdF? The reality is money talks and the other grand tours are not so globally important to teams and sponsors. It is why Armstrong and Sky targeted the TdF. Its also a fact that the Tour is raced harder than the other grand tours. So a TdF can be more physically and mentally demanding even if the parcours isn't as savage. As purists we may not like it as the Vuelta and Giro are wonderful races but they simply don't resonate with the non cycling public outside of Italy and Spain. Its also why the TdF is in the middle of the European summer and those races are pushed aside.

It's a interesting statement, because pogacar is constantly "praised" for his ability to recover.

How do you think Vingegaard would fare if he was placed in UAE and Pogacar had the might of JV behind him? I suggest Vingo might be a little worn out come the 3rd week wouldn't you? Remember how everyone assume Cadel Evans would beat Carlos Sastre in the 2008 TT - but Evans had nothing left. He had to contend with your namesake, Frank and Carlos. We know after 2020 PdBF what Pog can do when the cards fall in the right direction so his ability to recover should not be in question. But there are limits. He cannot assume to cover the wheels of every rival. He only has to cover Vingegaard and call Roglic's bluff.

In this Tour, the only stage I am not sure Pogi can follow him, is stage 17. The other stages, I put my hands on fire that Pogi will follow him and eventually gain time (bonus seconds) pretty easily.
