4.5. *** happens, he could have a crash like Froome’s or Bernal’s.
That would be my guess as well. Seems likely he'll get another 2 before someone can realistically catch up.

I've watched this sport for 20+ years and have been convinced numerous times another LA 7-year domination event was about to unfold. Preparation, injuries, and the arrival of a new generation of superstars tend to halt hegemonies much quicker than what people want to think while seeing domination unfold.

The year is 2026 and Ayuso is the "obvious" winner of the next 5 tours :D

I think 3.5 is already too much. Career arcs that used to unfold over a decade plus are done in a few years now, not even counting the obvious luck, crashes etc.

Ayuso or someone we’ve barely even heard of will be favorite within a couple years, and crashes/illness will wipe out at least a third of all attempts. Would be happy to be proven wrong but this sport feels more like a carousel these days.

3 I think is the minimum, but maybe also a maximum. Lets say he wins this year and then defends it again next year. Motivational issues may start to play a role, whether he really wants to do the same schedule and routine for fourth or fifth or sixth year in a row. Does he really want to be the Tour-only guy for his entire career or will he want to widen his legacy eventually with other GT-s and maybe doubles.?

Although he has no outstanding weakness, his main weapon is still his climbing and these kind of riders rarely turn out consistently dominating enough to rack up 4-5 Tour wins in row. If his main weapon gets blunted, it is really difficult for him to win in a different way. Pogacar who is even more well rounded as a rider and looked completely dominant and unbeatable up until last years Tour, is now staring at the second consecutive Tour defeat, just shows how quickly things can change.

Fishminator strikes again! He made a statement today. The race is still long but it's hard to look past him when it comes to the GC victory.
There's a bit of blood in the water now, isn't there? Tomorrow will be critical ... with a MTF, if Pogo shows any weakness, Bingo will drill it. Of course, the tables could also turn.

Depends of if today was just a bad day, or if Pogo is just weaker this year.

We talked a lot in the past about the skills of pogacar and vingegaard.
I must confess that i didn't expected that vingegaard dropped pogacar today on a 20 min climb.

Agreed. I actually expected he could attack but thought Pog would stick to his wheel. He can actually be even stronger than last year and ridiculous performances are still ahead.

Sorry Contador fans, Froome fans (are there any?), Lance ex-fans, Pogacar fans (oh wait...) but Skeletor in on his way to become the best climber of the century.

Someone like Contador was racing in an era when it was still amateur hour when it came to collective professionalism in areas like training, material and food. Freire won Sanremo on just 2 gels, do you know how insane that is? It is impossible to compare these things.

I am also a froome fan, but vingegaard is really a better climber.

Per Lantern Rouge, there was a tailwind on the climb. I'm assuming they factored that into the power calculations. Here is what they say:
  • Vingegaard's best climbing performance in a GT of all time
  • Very close to Contador in Verbier, but not quite on that level
  • Not quite on the level of Roglic and Remco on Lo Port, but this was obviously in tougher context
