Teams & Riders Jonas Vingegaard thread: Love in Iberia

Vingo taking 2 seconds already in the first corner on Pogi was a good indicator for what to come. It looked like Vingo was on another level taking lines and corners throughout the stage. The way he attacked the downhill compared to Pogacar was also eye catching.

There were obviously a big difference in the genereal power output, but I'd like to know how much Vingo won on his technical qualities and staying on his TT bike. Even Yates did a better climb than Pogi.

Chapeau, Jonas!
Great point. Watching his line selection and suppleness on the broadcasted sections of descents he was smooth enough to make WvA look twitchy. He wasted no energy on those sections except to max speed out and flow into transitions. Would love to see side by side following review of he and Tadej, WvA. It was clear he made almost half of his time on the downhill and flatter sections, combined with not taking a bike change. All the while Tadej is hearing the bad news in his earpiece and he's just getting to the sh*t part of the hills.

No no no, it's all down to Pogacars inferior regeneration and risk taking. Nothing to see here.
They say how better Vingegaard was in turns, descents compared to Pogacar and how he looked like a grandmother but Pogacar still beat quite easily all other riders before the main climb. So Pogacar was not that bad at descending and cornering... they still believe in miracles.
Just enjoy the show mate!

This would be very interesting if someone had the oppurtunity and knowledge to make such a review. Including an analysis of the bike change. Just km to km splits would also be interesting for me to read.

If he wins this tour, he needs to focus just in winning the third tour, and then if he wins the third tour, he needs to just focus on winning the fourth tour. He has the abilities and the opportunity to put his name with merckx, anquetil, indurain as riders in history with 5 tours.

He has time latter in his career, to win the giro ans vuelta. He is young.
Froome rode the Vuelta after his last 3 Tour victories, it's relatively easy to combine. Of course, I don't think Vingegaard should ride the Giro as he cannot afford that against Pogi, but the Vuelta comes afterwards. Then it's about just going and seeing if he can maintain the form. If not, he can support Rogla there, no worries.

Froome did his first Tour and Vuelta combo after winning the Tour in 2015 though he DNS stage 12 after being 15th due to a crash causing a broken foot. So plenty of time for Vinge to start this year.

Like Froome, he should from now on aim for Tour-Vuelta.
Would be mint if he showed up this year to super dom for Roglic. He probably won’t do that, the staff will probably think it’s too many race days and that kinda thing on Monday they are already looking at Grand depart 2024.

Next year I think Vingegaard needs to either add Ardennes or another GT to his schedule. It will probably “just” be the Ardennes and probably not even Amstel.

If Rogi wins this years vuelta I think he should go all in for #5 next year and the team should let him.

You have a point. I agree.

He could also try to be in better shape in october to win il lombardia.

indeed, probably the smartest move. His best chance of adding non-Tour big wins to his Palmares without jeopardizing his future Tour wins, is probably still Lombardia and Liege and maybe Worlds in some years.

As a romantic I would love it if he turned up in the Vuelta to help Rogi, but realistically it's probably better for all involved that Jumbo brings 8 guys that are fully dedicated to Rogi winning La Vuelta and have been planning participation for most of this year, while Jonas has a decent shout at getting a good result in Lombardia which might be a bridge too far for Roglic having already done two GTs in one year.

Vingagaard has shown nothing to suggest he could be super competitive in prestigious one day races.
not really no. 8th in San Sebastian and 14th+16th in Lombardia, whatever you believes is best out of the two. So it's not like he has no talent for it either.

He has shown he can put some watts into the pedals though also early in the Tour and in one week races and Jumbo keeps sending him to Lombardia so they probably believe he can do something there.

If he has a clear run at it and concentrates on it only you could see him win more Tours than anyone in history.

More talent comes every year but at the moment its hard ot see anyone beat him
No way, i don't think he appears nearly as dominant as Pogi in 2021. We all thought he was gonna win 5 in a row or more.
This tour is dead even except for one stage. I think there is a combo of recency bias and amazement at Jonas' outofthisworld performance.

But step back a bit and we are a puncture, dropped chain or whatever from a dramatic battle

Yes, Pogacar is my favourite rider but Lance was too back in the days. I don't want to be banned so let's not start a clinic discussion here.
Enjoy the show mate!
Just one more thing, I only had two idols in cycling, Lance and Contador. Tadej is far from those 2.

Just looking at the end of next year's route...... 35km time trial on the Col d'Eze.

Perfect terrain for Vingegaard again.

The Giro and Vuelta may well be targets for many riders next year.
Yeah, but the Tour is still the Tour.

Pogi had his wrist problems in build-up, that alone is reason enough to think he can do better.

Remco is never getting near a Tour win if he doesn't even show up. If he is scared away so easily he should get a job as an insurance salesman.

Roglic might do Giro+Vuelta because it'll be all for Jonas next year at Jumbo and he can break Vuelta record. Well unless Wout can win the stage in which case abandon the fishmonger he can fend for himself(half joking).

everyone else is in it to podium.

Stupid ride by the team. Full focus on UAE in the beginning, only to let Majka go again in a huge break together with Kelderman and Benoot. They should obviously have stayed with him, and they should preferably have caught the break before Meribel.

Two days they have ensured the stage win was in play, but not in the two stages that would have resulted in a stage win.

Am I the only one here irritated about how Vingegaard even after riding the most dominant TT possibly ever and gaining 6 minutes today still feels the need to say "Pogacar never gives up he'll still try something" in interviews.

Just say things are looking good now and you are ready for whatever happens or something. It's almost patronising towards the competition at this point.

At this point I fully expect him to be on Pogacar's wheel highly alert all throughout the final stage.
