Seems to me that Vingegaard is suited perfectly to exactly this: winning the Tour de France. A rider and a race seem to have found each other.

I don't think it's fair to compare Bernal and Pogacar.

Bernal won GC once, never won a single stage, and will likely never win either again,

Pogacar won GC twice, KOM twice, has 10 stage wins, and now likely will finish 2nd in GC twice.

Pogacar is not on the decline. He did his best numbers ever in this tour de france. He is still the most complete rider in the world, unfortunately for him a beast called vingegaard appeared to become the best GT rider in the world, and take that spot from him.

Oh, please! First Jonas may not like the Lance comparison. Second Pogacar is not on the decline, his crash unlike Bernal only interrupted his training just enough to make him the second best in this years tour. Bernal's crash was life threatening and he is showing signs of being on the right road back so he's no Froome. Besides he is the same age as Vingegaard and only 2 years older than Pogacar so age is on his side.

I guess it's time to congratulate to the race winner. Great level maintained for 3-weeks culminating in one of the most impressive TTs ever. It's never easy to defend the title but he did it and confirmed his status of #1 GT rider on the planet. The bar is set incredibly high to win the Tour, highest in many years. Looking at his physique and power he's the ultimate GT racer.

He was a bit lucky that Pogi tanked the year with the route most favouring the Slovenian.

If he gets a route next year more like 2022, but without any cobbles, Pogi will need to step up from even his best days.

Such a goal has never been realistically tried???
I would admire him if he attempted such a feat.

Great athlete, but, just like Froome, he displays very little passion and cycling joy. It's easy to respect him, but less easy to become a fan.
