Significant loss today. I think Jonas will be more like a protected super-dom from now on and JV will favour Rogla more. That being said Jonas will keep fighting for a podium place as the terrain ahead is favourable for him. I just don't think he'll win the race.

They might end up in a situation where they have to sacrifice him in order to keep GC Kuss alive.

So far he seems to be on the 2012 Froome trajectory.

The dropoff is too big after the Tour. This is the worst he's been all year, except for Paris-Nice maybe. He complained about stomach problems earlier in the race, maybe this took too much out of his form.

Winning the Tour is super-difficult in the era of the two mutants. To win both of them need outstanding performances day in day out and this stays in the body. Pogi is still licking his wounds while Vinnie is far from top form.

Not good. Would be super surprised if he can win from this spot, and in that case it would have to be somewhat of a tactical win.

He was still the second strongest climber in the first week.

People overrated him for this ITT now they're gonna underrate him in the mountains. Still doubt it'll be good enough though.

I think only people who don't really know (or analyze) cycling overrate him in time trials, particularly outside of peak shape. Some people legitimately think he can win Worlds ITT against Remco and Ganna which is clearly delusional on your standard route.

It's a power time trial at 56Km/h with huge roads and very little technic.. ideal for Ganna that are 83kg and 193cm.

It's Evenepoel that are surprisingly strong with such small stature,

Vingegaard TT in TdF 2023 was around 41km/h, so it was another fish

Vingegaard are usually not that special in the first half of the Grand Tour.. often a form around his top competitors and a tad under at times...its the second part, where he just seems to recover better. been the case in 2021, 22, 23 TdF
he needs to crack on one of the big mountain stages before you can write him out..

So far its 48 sec to Roglic and 1..13m to Evenepoel.. c'mon that gap can go pretty dang fast for Vingegaard if he finds his form, - for the guy who chopped 5.45 minutes on one stage on Pogacar (stage 17) just 1½ month ago.

a tricky factor is the GC ranking, and how locked he will be, because of his teammates ahead in the ranking.. You could see how people were almost offended that he went up to Roglic a few stages back when they dropped Evenepoel..

What stamina does Roglic got?..he certainly has more tendency than Vingegaard to crack on big Grand Tours.

but duo season-combos with "Tour de France & Vuelta". are not hanging on the trees, these years.. extremely talented riders. in the mix that you have two beat to muster that double, with Pogacar, Evenepoel, Roglic

Time wise, sure, but purely looking at how he performed the last few stages I don't have high hopes for him. Compared to Roglic that is.

Only 1:13 down on Remco is still a great position for the best climber in the field. It just depends on how good his form is. He is easily able to win back time on the hard mountain stages. At the only hard stage till now Roglic and Vingegaard distanced all the others. And it will get much harder on stage 13, 17 and 18.

Wouldnt be surprised if in the end Ayuso is more of a problem than Remco is. Additionally to Roglic of course.

It’s pretty clear at this point that he’s not on his best form - but stages 13 and 14 should really suit him whereas the first week really didn’t, so we will soon see if this version of Vingo is still good enough to win.

I don't think Vingegaard is even at his best... but for now it's enough. I think he'll improve from now on, clearly something was bothering him in the first week.

At this point it's really about how much they want Sepp Kuss to win this Vuelta, he can and he will if Jumbo decide to just leave the racing to others. They really only have to control.

Now that's a hard choice for his critics. Is he a Tour-centric July mega-peaker without passion for the sport, or is he too greedy going for the win in stage races throughout the year?

I guess it's not much of a dilemma now.

I wonder how many prefer his season last year over this?
