Maybe , but he probably doesn't get so many more opportunities to win the Giro.
I didn't say he shouldn't race Giro, it's wise choice. But for me it's telling that Visma gave up on the battle with Pogi. TDF means 100 times more for them and if they thought they can win Tour they would focus on it.

Visma has won at least one GT every year, so they wants to win one this season too. They don't have any other rider that can win so...

Winning the Tour even once trumps Evenepoel's entire palmares. The Tour is cycling's holy grail.

That doesn't necessarily mean it's the best or most entertaining race. The final of the World Cup in football often isn't very entertaining either. But it's the one everybody wants to win.

Not convinced they do thesedays, for sure if you get to the final, but its more club than country now. and the fact you only get maybe 3 or 4 goes in your whole career if you are lucky, vs 10 at your peak for a TdF, 15 over a long career.

Champions league final is where its at for footballers

No. WC is far superior to the Champions League. Every footballer who has won both say that.

It's not like he can chose what to win in 2026. He gets what Pogi doesn't want. He knows that, Pogi knowns that.

Vingo riding Giro is capitulation.
Careful. As Red Rick implies, that's almost word for word what some Vingegaard fans were saying when Pogacar announced he would ride the 2024 Giro.

I think we need to be fair. Jonas and his team are making realistic goals and winning the Giro would be a career GT slam for him and Visma. There is no harm riding the Giro IMO. He hasn't targeted that race before, his strengths suit that race and if he recovers has a chance to at least make the TdF a contest. You never know until you try.

Vingo was always known for his strong recovery. Remember when he won the 2023 Tour easily he rode in support of his teamate at the Vuelta but many think he could have gone back to back GTs if he wanted to. He will be 30 for next season but he can still push his ceiling higher than we have seen. And there are no guarantees Pogi can replicate his level seen the last two years even if Pog is the younger of the two.

Hence why I think saying riding the Giro is capitulation is being unfair.

Realistically, caputilation would be racing Giro and Vuelta. But his 2023 and 2025 Vuelta's should by all means at least give confidence for hitting a good shape in the Giro, especially when that Giro should be a cakewalk if he shows up in July form.
