He is still very easily the second-best GC rider right now, also with quite a gap still to the 3rd-best GC rider (whoever you think that is).
And safe to say one of the best GC riders ever.
Although i'll always have hope for Almeida, if Ving doesn't have any bad luck, he will most likely win the Giro without much trouble.

Good to see Vingo back on top again today. I'd sworn years ago that I would never be a Vingo fan but he is slowly winning me over. This is partly due to the fact that he has become so overshadowed by Pog and the new generation of potential superstars. And secondly, I also think the guy has a more interesting and humorous personality than people give him credit for. I find it refreshing to have a rider with his pragmatic nature and complete lack of consideration for cyclings conservatism. No one else in the current peloton gives out the same no *** vibes as Vingo, in my opinion.

By the way, if you haven't already, go watch the latest LRCP episode :D

Looking great, definitely on schedule for a dominant Giro. After getting to 90 kg for Roubaix Pogi will need to reduce his mass very fast!

hes in better shape than i expected before the race

i think the 2024 tour and how he got there took a lot out of him and that he was burned out at the end of the season and so couldnt build as good a base as other years

I actually think that due to his obsession with the classics (rightfully so), the duel may be very, very close. Don't think the Giro will have much of a negative impact over Vingegaard.

Probably kinda mental burn out. The fact that he came back so quickly after this nighmarish crash to chase Pogacar on descents like Galibier must have been super hard mentally. Some physical problems early last year also didn't help. He's poised for a very good season, I think.

He finished his season in August and started his season in October. I don't buy that, I am more inclined to a change of coach.

It's still too early to say. We haven't seen Pogacar in full flight yet, SB didn't force him to dig deep. After April we will know more: wheather his dominance is getting even stronger or the other way around. After just one race I would say it's looking similar (but one data point is not enough). In case of Vingo also too little data so far.

I'd like to see him and Pogacar share a couple more Tour wins/podiums between them, in a way it would add more to Pogacar's legacy/legend than a repeat of the last couple of years.

It wouldn't really.

But I would agree with more 1-2s does still add more to Vingegaard's legacy.

I don't think we'll know more about Pogacar untill Romandie, at the earliest.
He may be stronger and evan win San Remo and Roubaix (even due to strength) and I don't think it will have any relevance to his performance in the mountains in July. And that's my point, which is obviously not based on any fact YET.
Due to his focus in the classics, he may regress a little in the high mountains. And if Vingegaard is a bit better, things my be very close.

But yes, very early days.

The point is Vingegaard needs to improve a lot because he will not win the TdF if he isn't able to drop Pogacar.

I thought so last year after doing PR and Ardennes classics, yet he demolished the field in the mountains only 5 weeks after in the Dauphine.

He keeps a very high level all year round, and basically only needs 2 altitude camp to get in peak shape before the TdF.
