Yes if Vingo let him go, maybe Visma, Trek and a few others would control and reel Remco in eventually. Or at least limit time loss to few seconds, but why take that risk?
Closing the gap could potentially get Remco to sit up and the front group could return to gaining time on the chase.
And Vingegaard could get very lucky and get a cheap stage win if Remco did a lot more of the work
