Good to see QS went with my suggestion and plan to send Alaphillippe to the Tour. Get him there and wave the ol' Tricolore , Vive La France (or whatever Frenchman say), allez allez and warm the cockles of ol' man Lefevere's heart, before he sells him off to Arkea-Samsic or some other team.

My summary of the spring, now that Giro and summer come:

Alaphilippe is not a part of the Big Seven any more.

(Current Big Seven: WVA-MvdP-Pidcock + Pog-Rog-Remco-Vingegaard)

Ala might leave Soudal. Maybe the right time to join a new hopeful project? Why not join CIC U Nantes Atlantique, for example? They are CT now (since 2022), and certainly would love to have Ala on board…

Current big 7 isn't a big 7 but big 6, and Pidcock isn't part of it.

He was not bad today at LBL. The main problem is in the past, on a race like this, the team would work for him. And he would have the freedom to compete for himself. Now it's hard to see beyond the team working for Evenepoel.

So likely Ala should decide, during the time left on this contract, if that is good enough for him or if best to move forward. If he would still like to have good opportunities then likely it makes sense to work hard and grab opportunities that are still there and after the contract expires to change teams. As if he would give up now mentally and physically. Due to the condition he is in. That wouldn't be good long term.

I think he can still win big.
He has constantly gone from injury to illness to injury over the last couple of years.
To win you have to be right on top of your game.
If he can get a clear run he can still end up having a good season.

Loved how well Julian surfed the front of the pack and picked the best leadout....That it was an EF rider and not a teammate might have been why his finish salute looked more like a gesture to Patrick for making him option #4 in the sprint. "but now, Yeah...I'm thinking I'm back!"

i think he will be really good at the tour.
I think he'll have his moments. Today he lost the ambition for a stage and, when the GC pack caught him he put it in cruise mode. I think he went deep and knew there was nothing more to be gained by self-flagellation. That's smarter than years past and he knows what his current limits are. How much more he can make up is up to him and whomever he's motivated to ride with on his team.
Honestly neither he nor Remco would stand a chance against Vingegaard even if they were both healthy. Add Pogacar; who will be ready when it counts and the rest of the pack will be searching for opportunities to get a stage or scratch for the podium. Maybe a stage.
