Jumbo - QuickStep merger

Page 44 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
It seems unlikely that this merger will happen before next year. Riders, UCI and commentators are against it. There would be legal implications. There are negotiations, but each day without an announcement makes it less likely. If it happens 2025 would be more likely. That would give riders and staff time to prepare or search for another team.

Another possibility is that both teams continue to exist, but that Jumbo is replaced by another sponsor. Amazon has been mentioned. Or why not Albert Heijn?

Even guys like Vansevenant & Van Tricht must be interesting for EF & Israel to build around Healy & Teuns.
EF already have a s**tload of guys for hilly classics. Healy, Powless, Piccolo, Honore, Nerukar, Bettiol, Valgren, Sweeny, also Carapaz, Uran, Ryan and a few others for the more mountainous ones.

If I'm Vaughters, I'm looking to get someone who can either sprint or ride cobbles out of this situation, because their cobbled team has underperformed for the last few years and with Van den Berg being their only guy who can be even a remote threat in any kind of a big group sprint, they often end up at races that usually end up in a sprint like Bemer Cyclassics without even a distant prospect of getting a result.

So Jumbo will listen to the public opinion again? This is Kuss 2.0

I doubt it. It's either 2024 or not at all. A business deal has its window of opportunity. If they want the deal in 2025, it probably remains a LOI or a contract with many loopholes because a lot can happen in between, especially now that everybody knows it. Chances are significant that the deal won't materialise if it is postponed to 2025. Maybe there are options to make the deal and keep the two teams, e.g. by making a holding structure, but I can imagine that this is against the rules (and Fair Play).

Wielerflits: Van Aert wants Lampaert at Jumbo; only six would go from SQS; Evenepoel expected to be part of the new team

The public opinion angle is nonsense. The riders have no say. Please explain the "legal implications".

I was thinking more of sponsor obligations, you can't just break deals that have been signed to cover a period with no penalties, see how Ridley bikes reacted to Lotto Dstny dumping them.

Or how Astanas sunglasses sponsor reacted to Cav wearing Oakleys.

It's complicated stuff, more so because there are lots of people involved in a cycling team with lots of different contracts.

From 0 to 10, how ingenious would be Remco's entourage plan to persuade Bakala and Soudal to join TJV side just so they are free to join Ineos when the merger go ahead without them having to pay any release fee?

To terminate a team, to move? And for the other side to get you cheap? Why? In my opinion it would be much more ingenious to make the other side pay big. Due to much less effort involved, for you, and for having a much stronger commitment from the get-go.

another teammate he can shower with gifts, I reckon

The fact that they started these "talks" during the TDF and continued to sign riders as if there was no problem indicates that they never gave a crap about the people who were in the org. So much for "WolfPack" that SQS publicize. Whether this merger happens or not, SQS is done as a team since i doubt there is any trust left.
Sometimes there’s a big differences from the owners and the team.” I don’t know how much of the “Wolfpack” team attitude is true or not, but the owner(s) selling them out doesn’t prove anything about the team/rider dynamics.

Omg. Some serious LOLs at Remco as super-domestique at the merged team.

Please tell me why a guy who at age 22 won the velo d’or (a year after career threatening injury) should now play second fiddle to anyone?

Without Covid, this whole narrative would be completely different. Instead we just got a refueling for those with RDS (AKA “the haters”).

I actually love it. He will continue to be an underdog and therefore more and more likable as he again and again turns the negative into positive.

Having said that, I have little doubt that he’s headed over to Ineos.

If he wants to go to the tour france 2024 in the same team of Vingegaard, of course he will be his super domestique like adam yates was for pogi this year. Vingegaard is on another level in grand tours, very far from remco. Even pogacar is not on his level in terms of grand tours.

If he wants to be leader in the giro 2024, he can be on the merged team.

In ineos, he will be leader in the tour 2024. That's the best option for him if he wants full leadership.

The conversation of remco being an underdog, is really annoying, and always comes for one of his fanboys. He's not an underdog, stop with that crap. He is a winner, and one of the best riders in the world. Of course, pogacar is the most complete rider in the world, Vingegaard is the best grand tour rider in the world, van der poel is the best one day racer, but remco is the best TTer in the world, and can do good performances in grand tours, one week races, and one day races, even if there's sometimes, somebody better than him on those races.

Now that Roglic has gotten out of the soap opera zone I'd hope that JV would step on their d*ck a little bit with the uncertainty of this whole mess. That will provide Primoz with some needed time to get familiar with his new buddies at Bora. Would be cool if Kuss or Powless could join him.

It could of course also be that if the merger falls through it's not Quickstep who fold, but Jumbo. Then Roglic can bring all the buddies he wants :)
