Owh boohoo, people drop half way out of Gent-Wevelgem because they just don't care about it and rather be fully prepared for Flanders.

You do know Breschel got his *** kicked by Devolder at the RVV last year right? And I don't even like Devolder and consider his Flanders victories a fluke, but that's how it was(because of the tactics by other teams).

If he was a real super talent à la Boonen and Cancellara he'd have won a major cobbled classic by now. He just isn't of the same level. Will he ever win one? Probably, but not next year even without the injuries. And if he does I'll be highly surprised.
Why did I even bother. You watch races differently than I do.

Yes, and Matti Breschel never came close to winning any of the major cobbled classics.

Perhaps your way of watching races is thinking if he, he, he, he, he and he drops out than Breschel can win! Yeah, not going to happen.

Even Tyler Farrar can get a 5th place in the Ronde, doesn't mean he was close to winning the thing or that he'll ever win it.

Hoste came second 2 times in the Ronde and finished in the top 10 at P-R this year. Also finished second in P-R in 2006. Yet no one is speaking of him winning one. Don't see why there should be some magical exception for Matti Breschel.

The way Breschel races is in no way comparable to Farrar. Look, your comparisons generally make no sense to me. So let's stop discussing, you don't see potential, only the winner and some Belgians.

I didn't say anything about Belgians. It's not my fault that Boonen, Devolder and Philippe Gilbert are Belgians.

RVV:

2005: Boonen
2006: Boonen
2007: Ballan(hasn't done anything of note ever since his Worlds win)
2008: Devolder. Boonen showed his strength, but everyone was looking at him.
2009: Devolder. Again a strong Boonen, but everyone marked him. Decent Gilbert and Haussler.
2010: Cancellara. Strong Boonen, but not nearly as strong as Spartacus. Decent Gilbert.

P-R:

2005: Boonen
2006: Cancellara
2007: Stuart O' Grady. And we all know he won't be doing that again.
2008: Boonen. Strong Cancellara and Ballan.
2009: Boonen. Strong Hushovd. Wheelsucking Pozzato, would never beat them both in a sprint anyway. So weird tactic of him.
2010: Cancellara. Strong Hushovd. Decent Boonen.

Yeah, forgive me for only seeing these guys as being able to win next year. I wonder why... So far only 2007 has been a surprising year if you look at the winners. That leaves you with 5 years that were all dominated by Cancellara, Boonen or the mere presence of Boonen in your team(RVV 2008/2009)

I see potential in Breschel, but not for next year. Of course it's a bummer that he'll miss the spring classics because he could've gained a lot of experience, but he wasn't going to win any of them without an incredible amount of luck. Let him get a podium first, then we'll talk...

I don't mind giving France an extra population of 3.4million. They would have at least one good cyclist then.

I'm not being chauvinistic, but I won't deny that Belgians and Cancellara have dominated the cobbles last 5-6 years.

@Pistolero

You will probably regret what you said about Breschel in a couple of years. I recomend that you follow him a little more thouroghly.

I will regret that I said Breschel won't win a cobbled classic next year in a couple of years when he'll win one then? No, that will actually prove my point. The older you get the better you get in races like the RVV or P-R. Museeuw is the perfect example.

What I regret is voting for Pozatto for most overrated cyclist in a thread couple of weeks ago. I should have voted for Breschel.

Think he has proved, that when on form he can sit there with the best. If that''s enough to ever win P-R or Flanders we will just have to wait and see.

Shame about his injury tho. Had been looking forward to follow him this season with Rabobank to support him. Boonen, Cancellara and the Fjældabe will be favorites ofc but Brechel would have been a good bet as a dark horse.
