What i dont get is why the race is framed so much as Demi almost lost it, when clearly she finished first still

Demi almost lost that
but she didnt she won
Yeah but she almost didnt
But she won
Yeah but she could have lost it
BUT SHE DIDNT SHE WON !!!

Can't we celebrate success positively and not go for the negative all the time?

I mean im sure there are those out there who have gone for the Puck lost that angle. But for the majority everyone's treating her result as a positive as they should she did everything right and just got beaten by a stronger rider, so why not the same treatment for Demi ?

Probably just because Demi is the expected stronger rider, and though she got a fair amount of sympathy and support in the wake of the 2024 TdFF SD Worx debacle, she has also cost herself a lot of that same support with things like the bizarre Worlds tactics and coming across as a sore loser around other subjects in a way that she didn't when she actually had a reason to be one.

Although a large part of that is that PFP is popular whereas SD Worx' team cars are less so, and that the in-fighting at SD Worx meant she wasn't seen especially sympathetic in some parts before the 2024 Tour, although that debacle did rather show that she wasn't the problem in that team.

She didn't win by much, but she still had enough time to raise her hands before the line without being in trouble. Not as impressive as her 2023 win, but not exactly the closest uphill finish in history either. There will always be a risk of someone having more left in the final part when you decide to ride it from the front. Demi has experienced that before in this race, and Van Vleuten also tried it against Cavalli four years ago.
