Susan,

What is trolling in terms of this thread? Sprocket asked some legitimate questions about the logistics of big-time blood doping and things went from there. This thread is one of the funnier things I have read in awhile and hopefully we are not doing anything wrong here. I think it is great.

The post count proves this, and if a small minority like yellow fellow or july cyclist doesn't like the content they have hundreds of other threads to read. I do think the reference to male genetalia many pages ago was irrelevant, but I admit it made me crack up.

Sometimes I think trolling is when somebody voices an opinion or asks a question that is not in step with the LA hate faction. Hopefully this is not what is going on. If it is, then I don't know why a cycling site would squash opinion that the top riders aren't the scum of the earth. Is non-stop irrational psychotic hate good for business? That's contrary to what I would think but I am wrong every so often.

I am seriously curious. I have one "point" against me here per PM from Greg (I don't know what the scale is for punishment points/suspension/ban, can you tell me?) and don't want to up my threat level score. Thanks.

The thread was classic until about page 6 (of 8), then it just took on a whole new dimension

The biggest trolling infraction here is that it seems highly likely that we have one member posting under several different names, often supporting himself, and shoving this in the face of others, who then shove back. This has become the focus of the thread, making any meaningful discussion regarding the OP's original question impossible, and the thread pointless.

So you don't see anything wrong with a user, Sprocket, having multiple accounts?

I don;t believe you've seen what the rest of us have in the past few months from this person, under multiple usernames. He has continuously hijacked and trolled. This thread is tame in comparison to what he has come out with.

Yes, and he admitted upthread he had another username that got banned, and stopped using another per the request of the moderators. Since you are a mod how about confirming that?

You are also implying that he is using multiple usernames in this thread to "support himself". Please point out where this is happening.

As for the OP, the title of this thread is the most obvious trolling done here IMO. I'm not complaining, just pointing out how my definition of trolling seems to be different and why I wanted clarification.

Last chance: back on topic.

If you want to talk trolls, sock puppets, or whatever, go do it in the "About the Forum" website.

Susan

Susan,

Here is something Mountain Goat posted in the troll thread in "About the forum", as defiinition of a troll:

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]"

"Application of the term troll is highly subjective. Some readers may characterize a post as trolling, while others may regard the same post as a legitimate contribution to the discussion, even if controversial. The term is often used as an ad hominem strategy to discredit an opposing position by attacking its proponent."

When sprocket asks a question that is not in line with anti-LA, he is branded a troll and the second part of the above definition applies because he is attacked. His questions about blood doping logistics were not irrelevant or off-topic, but they were inflammatory to those that have opposing and closed minded views.

It seems to me that Sprocket can use the same label to describe Bikecentric, Race Radio, etal. He is discredited by an onslaught of namecalling after he posts something that is offensive and inflammatory to their mindset, on topic or not. I tend to have the opinion the others are the trolls if I really want to look hard at this thread.

I personally don't think any of them are "trolls". Trolls are only that if you make them that way by not having fact based discussion.

Yeah, I can see the point about having multiple accounts. For the record, I am pro not-having-multiple-accounts. :D

I follow the forum, and post sporadically. So I am sure I have seen the same stuff you have but I have a different opinion. That may be inflammatory to you....I must be a troll.

Back on topic -

I am flying to Frankfurt tonight from the states, then onward to Saudi Arabia for a week of fun, relaxation, and pursuit of my next wife. I accidentally cut myself skinning a hog last night and collected the blood in a ziplock baggie. It is in the freezer right now.

I will put this in my carry on and see what happens. This is not the same as having a private jet like Race Radio and being able to land at airports without formal customs but it will give us some indication of the level of attention this would cause.

Wish me luck!

I can see how and why you've been given a point by the mods.

What the heck are you talking about?

I'm sorry. English must be your fourth or fifth language. Either that or you are in elementary school. The web is worldwide and so I understand your dilemma if you don't read English well. If you are underage, I hope your parents are monitoring your internet habits.

Regardless, this doping stuff is kinda complicated and we all seem overwhelmed at times.

If you can be a little more descriptive of what exactly it is that you don't understand about my previous post I will be glad to explain. Thanks.

He's the one that said he flies on private jets! I get a point for repeating what he posted upthread?

You guys are a tough crowd.

Uh Chris, Sprocket was asking Race Radio why he got banned from some other site and then you responded to me and asked me why I wasn't answering his question. If that's just a simple mistake in what post you responded to I'm not gonna flame you for it but this is a pretty odd flame from you.

Now this would be trolling. When your only goal is to bait me into responding and not adding anything to the topic most would see this as trolling. I think we can all agree that Sprocket1 primary goal with his posts is to high jack threads.

I know Chris knows enough about the sport that he can add something to the discussion and perhaps balance the prevailing view.....but if all you are interested in is stirring the pot most will not take you seriously.
