GT and SK seem the real losers to me, Ala might have gained 30 seconds on the decent, but he was losing another 2 mins on the last climb. Bernal might have carried on building his lead, he might have struggled, we'll never know.

It’ll be interesting to know for how long the roads were impassible. It looks like it was on the final slopes of the Iseran
Yes, everything happened really fast, they had to react really fast. Sucks for the riders, but it's one of the very few times when I have to defend ASO.

Cancel the whole stage then

They can't do that. That would create a mutiny. Keeps Julian in Yellow. :surprised:

Would be about equally fair than what they do now. Of course Yates would have sprinted for the win and not paced him. Kruijswijk would have put everything in and not let de Plus ride and so on...
Thomas as well has probably lost out big time. He almost certainly had a fair bit left in the tank and would have put in a big attack on the last climb.

Yes, true. For Thomas applies the same as for Kruijswijk.

Don't see it, his attacks in the last week have been weak.

Just transport all the riders past the blockage and set them off at timed intervals. Let them fight it out!
Man, what a disappointing day all around

I don't think they can drive through, let alone ride through

I would love to hear Andy Hampsten's take on the matter. I am all for rider safety. but the conditions didn't seem to come close what rider's faced in the past. Granted, I am looking at a tv screen from my couch, so my perception is probably way off.

This really sucks but honestly, I don't think this is going to have much effect on the final podium. Going to be Bernal, Thomas, and Kruijswijk

I'm not convinced Bernal would have kept his lead up the final climb. He's won the lottery today.

General conclusion:

- neutralization of the stage concerning riders' health & safety: perfect decision
- choosing a time and place earlier in a race as finish and/or time recording: feels incredibly wrong

Part of the road looking like a river, mudslides across the road, they had to stop.

Imagine neutralizing the stage when Bernal is only 30 seconds ahead of JA.
I think the time gaps should be fine. They will get to live another day.
