Re:

One important thing is it's kinda doubtful Quintana suffered signficantly more than the other GC riders despite being in the break yesterday. He's definitely back in podium contention unless Movistar hate him that much

Re: Le Tour '19 stage 19: Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne > Tignes 1

I would like to see Porte do well and get a top ten finish after what he's gone through the last couple of Tours. It would be a big morale boost for him going into next year.

Surely Quintana will be marked, heck even Landa was marked yesterday which is why he couldn't go on the Iozard.

Sure, i was being kind earlier....the chances of Landa/Quintana/Bernal/Thomas being allowed to go in any kind of break are zero...they're going to have to attack the GC group solo if they want to make any significant headway

Some candidates for the break:

Bardet, nailed on
Valverde, tactic is irresistible
Nibali
Lutsenko
Caruso
Wellens
Yates x 2
Mollema
Costa
Teuns
Taaramae
D Martin

Not sure about Nibali & D Martin...both look way below par
Sunweb will have Roche if he can still pedal
Henao and Bilbao more likely for UAE & Astana for me
Lutsenko gave so much yesterday ..can he go again today ??
Zakarin will be there abouts

Landa and Quintana will try to be the first to get in the break / go on a later attack to stymie the other.

I'm not sure that any break containing Bernal or Thomas is going to be allowed to establish itself...

Yes, obviously. For the Sky pair, it would be the first to get ahead of the other. Maybe on the Col de l'Iseran, to stop the other one going. Could be a bit of unresolved leader tension there, I think.

Porte said the other day he'd like to win a stage - big call on this kind of parcours. Fought to come in with the yellow jersey group yesterday so maybe he is getting better. Yes if he can replicate that the next two stages it would be a good result for him and definitely a moral booster.

Landa didn't even try yesterday so I'm curious where did you see that he was marked and by who?
I think the plan was to set up Landa for an attack but when Soler was riding the legs didn't feel good and Landa couldn't really attack.

Ye olde Tinkov also at the Tour (still in his team kit of course) :)

no, the initial plan was for Landa to attack on the Izoard and Quintana to work for him then, but as he was doing very well in front, the team decided to go for the stage win with Quintana instead. So it had nothing to do with Landa not being strong enough, being marked, or whatever.

...at least if we believe what they say ;)

Movistar made a mistake pulling the favorites group like they did - Quintana could have gotten another 2-3 minutes, and it would have forced Ineos and Jumbo to work much earlier, if Movistar had ridden defensively.

it surely wasn't perfect, but they basically lost all time they had gained on the climb on the descent again anyway. In terms of the gap, I don't think it really made a difference in the end.

Yeah I saw that, but didn't saw he was marked anywhere during the stage...
