5 riders inside 1,42 of yellow, up the last mountain of the tour.

Tomorrow is going to be an epic battle, with 5 guys all thinking they can win the Tour.
You think people think they can overtake Bernal? Not unless he crashes. I think there will be fireworks for the podium but that is about it.

So no time bonuses - no 10 seconds or 8 seconds for Bernal. Puts him what 45 up on Ala?
Why in the world wouldnt you at least give him the time bonus?? I mean, that doesnt make sense at all.

The stage has to finish, it didn't so no time bonuses, which is fair given the situation.
Well you obviously cant give time bonuses for the stage win, but there was 8 seconds on top of Iseran. Thats the seconds Im speaking about

What a shame but I doubt there was a better solution. Seems to have been a flash flood, which tend to, well happen in a flash. Courageous riding by Bernal going out from over 40km out gets rewarded, so there's that. Let's see if Jumbo and Movi and maybe even Bora bring it tomorrow

Re: Le Tour '19 stage 19: Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne > Tignes 1

I don't know how people are complaining about this decision and the timing of it when they have no idea whatsoever when the storms and mudslide happened.

We didn't see any images of the hail or mudslide until Bernal was at the top of the Iseran. There was still a mudslide when reporters got there.

Maybe the road was perfectly passable when the riders were halfway up the Iseran. Nobody here knows.

This is the only decision to take considering the situation.

This was the perfect stage and scenario to get a race like we got. INEOS decided they didnt wanna postpone the funeral of Alaf any longer and went on one of the toughest climbs in the race, man against man, no helpers with 40 k left. Tour on the line. Then this *** happen.

Ffs, this was just a legendary stage. Now it will be remembered for different reasons. Still not quite as bad as Ventoux (which also was a bad stage), but still, I really really really hate this. :( :(

From what I've seen on Twitter, the people complaining about the timing were largely people who were already complaining about the cancellation itself and had to shift their position as the state of the road became clear to avoid having to actually change their minds.

I think it would make sense to give the Iseran bonus to the first three since they actually climbed it during the race.

I saw Bernal being first on top of the Iseran, before the race was stopped. For me he has won this stage as that's what effectively happened. I stopped caring what rewritten history books claim years ago. I just hope he doesn't need the bonus seconds they stole away from him tomorrow. Glad he's legitimately earned the yellow jersey at least!

Wiggins on the bike said just below 30C on top of the Iseran, raining when they hit the bottom, then hailstones about 10 mins later. After that there was a tunnel they entered where on the other side there was a river on the road about half a kilometre long.

Of course his info is worthless compared to eyewitnesses and oracles we have here on this forum.

In that case, what you definitely didn't see was Bernal and Yates contesting the stage win.

He was awarded 8 bonus seconds because those bonuses at the top of the Iseran were already in place for the stage. I think they've done the fairest thing they could in the circumstances.

Agree, they have done the most fair thing.

Re: Le Tour '19 stage 19: Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne > Tignes 1

The forum has outdone itself today. I’m just amazed nobody called for the organisers to suck the snow and mud off the road using giant drinking straws. Those moaning should stop for a minute and contemplate how hard this wonderful race must be to stage and that a situation like today’s was just unfortunate rather than anyone's fault. There are no hard luck stories apart from Pinot and that was unrelated to the mudslide. The best rider is in yellow, the bravest rider is second and the other three just couldn’t find the energy to attack.

Allaphillipe is very fortunate with this calll.....he would have lost many minutes on the next climb.
Doubt it. He was struggling with the altitude more than anything - something that massively favoured Bernal. Probably would have closed the gap on the last climb if anything.
He could protest!

Indeed. Frankly it's just a bike race at the end of the day. I'm just thankful the mudslide didn't happen at exactly the same time the riders were passing by.
