I'm still deciding whether or not I can make myself watch or not, but here goes:
I wanted Basso to do well, but I think crashing on his face really set him back, both in training and psychologically. He has time to improve, but I dunno.
I looked at the Dauphine results. Kudos to Wiggins for the win, but he got there with a second in the Prologue and a third in the TdF Time Trial course. I'm not sure how that translates into Eurosport's proclamation of a second coming. I read one guy who said that he, like all Tour riders, aim to peak in early June, to which I say WTF? Anyway, he celebrated his victory by saying that Contador shouldn't be there after testing positive 4 times - just the wording is enough for karma to have it's way and keep him out of the top twenty.
I watched a bit of the TdS Sunday. It was the second time I saw Schlecklet race a stage race this year, and the second time I saw him chasing Tom Danielsen up a climb, way behind Leipheimer and others. If he's having perfect preparation for the Tour, I expect a Lance-like performance from him.
I'm only still reading about the sport because I'm a Contador fan. I didn't want him to ride the race because I don't want to watch a lot of the guys there. Now that he's committed, I'll be totally satisfied with a yellow jersey and a few seconds margin of victory at the end. He put on the big burst of entertainment at the Giro, and I'm content. Friday he did what I'd read earlier was to be a Lactate Threshold test, power test in watts, and test of average rate of ascent over an 1850 meter climb. The best translation I saw of that had him saying that it wasn't quite as good as the same time other years. But he's still not completely recovered from, nor gained all the benefit from, riding the Giro so hard. It would be great if he can drop people and go charging up the climbs alone, but I'll be satisfied with consistency and time management.
I expect to see one of the Radio Shack guys with shiny heads in the top five, and like any good magic trick, I'm not going to wonder how it was done.
I'd lock to see some new guys have break out performances, but if I knew who they were, they wouldn't really qualify. (That's me being too lazy to do research)
