I doubt anything would be different with Porte and Nibali in a stage such as todays. But that's the usual myth when a certain rider is not there.

There is a weird tendency about riders, or athletes in general... the more they are absent, the better they get.

I think if those riders were still in the race there was at least the chance to make the stage a bit harder. Sacrifice a dom each to at least drop a couple of the sky doms before the final climb, rather than just allowing sky to soft pedal up the climbs at whatever speed they like.

What an awful stage that was. What more do people expect when they put this stage before a very hard MTF? The positioning of these stages has been very wrong this Tour.

The problem isn't descent finishes, the problem is descent finishes being before MTFs so nobody attacks on them.
