Eventhough Vino is up there in age and is consider an outsider, they don't want ot take too many chances to let him have too much time.

Remember 2006 with Periero who they gave him 29 minutes back because everyone assumed he would lose that time in the Alps... This is the example they see. Vino has podium and finish 5th, so its kinda like a respect factor involved.

There's quite a difference between giving up 29 minutes or giving about 2 minutes. While Vino is quite a rider still anything less then 5 minutes or so will keep him harmless for the podium.
