Was searching for thread on joint pain/treatment and found this thread. I have no problem with medical Mary Jane, but I wanted to post on a possible option that some NFL players are starting to use that, unlike MJ, helps the body heal itself.

The procedure is Regenokine treatment. But here is the hitch, it is apparently a variant of Orthokine treatments, which were banned in the USA. In 2011, Kobe Bryant went to Germany to get Regenokine treatments for joint pain and worked wonders for him. I don't know where current NFL players (SEA KJ Wright just had it done with good results, and based on that success 3 or 4 other Seahawk players are having it done this week) are getting the procedure done, but if within US borders it might be an affordable option. Some links:

http://www.stemcellinstitute.com/regenokine-treatments/

Another option: I have used Costco's Kirkland brand dried seaweed for spinal pain successfully. Dose: 3-5 flakes a day. But you have to get over the foul taste. Once I did I actually tolerate the flavor, stopping short of saying I like it. Weird? Exactly what I said when a coworker told me his amazing story, which he confirmed with before and after MRIs of his spine, which showed the treatment significantly increased the height of spinal disks. Apparently after a certain age the body's ability to retain spinal fluid is reduced due to lack of certain nutrients in normal diet. The seaweed has that nutrient. For me, my upper neck pain was caused by several injuries over the years that cycling aggravated. A month of seaweed and the pain was gone. Best cheap cure I ever had.

Honestly do not know. Even quackier-sounding (and I'm a conservative when it comes to staying away from things that sound like quackery), my coworker source has a local Buddhist "trainer" who he gets a lot of information from. He even spent 2 weeks vacation living with Buddhist monks in China. But my pain was so severe I could only try to sleep on my back and could not raise my left arm above mt head, so I had nothing to lose by introducing seaweed into my diet. Now am just on a low maintenance level of under 3 to 4 flakes/week, as too much to the diet is reported as potentially unhealthy. Like anything.

The best link I found to describe the cause: https://tampabaybackpaindoctor.com/spinal-cord-injuries/thinning-disc/. Disc hydration seems to be important.

b/c seaweed is a supplement it is not controlled by the FDA. So there is not a ton of scientific evidence that supports the use of seaweed to treat health problems, but there are some. Such as treatment study for knee osteoarthritis (using seaweed derived mineral supplement, Aquamin F).

Something else that I was thinking about: the seaweed is a naturally occurring, just like hemp/cannabis. Its legal to take all sorts of harmful things that aren't natural, and maybe seaweed will turn out to cause brain warts, but mj is i illegal?

Not illegal in Washington State or Colorado. After reading the blog in link below, seaweed may actually cure warts. Some actually claimed it cured herpes & genital warts! Eeek. TMI.

But, HERE IS THE SEAWEED ELEMENT CLAIMED RESPONSIBLE FOR SKIN & JOINT ISSUES (that someone extrapolated to healthy spinal disc hydration):
HYALURONIC ACID (HA)

... a very long blog!

Full disclosure, I'm biased on this issue.

First of all, cannabis isn't a "drug." Hold some in Your hand and it looks just a plant.
I'm not doing drugs in the morning with those 2 double espresso's & I'm not doing drugs when I enjoy 2 glasses of Bourgogne in the evening either.
I get it,,, however, REEFER MADNESS (all of it) is responsible for influencing citizens to believe that the plant cannabis is first and foremost a drug.

Plant, as described on literally the very 1st page of the Bible.

We as civilized people should not be caging responsible adults who use what God indicates He created and said is good on that 1st page.

We have been requested to love one another and in so doing, We are able to receive the "spirit of truth" (which is what We are here for! BTW) see John 14-16 & 1 John. YOU CAN NOT LOVE SOMEONE AND CAGE THEM FOR USING WHAT GOD SAID IS GOOD, at the same time.

Cannabis prohibition, extermination and discrimination is the devil law. It literally separates people from Christ God Our Father.

It's the original living sin.

-0-

If the devil were to create a blanket separation of the most people from receiving the "spirit of truth", where would he start? He'll not snare everyone but stumble most and get to other people later... but the most to start with? Where?

Most people acknowledge We have a lot of problems today; war and murder comes to mind... If You wish to fix those problems and do so Biblically, where would You start? Not page 241, not the middle of the New or Old Testament. No, You go to PAGE 1 and start there. END CANNABIS PROHIBITION. Many regular church goers have been duped by failed clergy (see Sin of the Priests, Malachi 6 NASB /last book of the Old) into supporting and enabling cannabis prohibition & according to the Christ, they are then unable to receive that "spirit of truth."

THOSE PEOPLE ARE THEN STUMBLING starting on the 1st page of the Bible.

By time they get to page 3 where the teaching of do not kill, begin, they are already lost!

It's why many regular church goers support war. (What the heck is a pro-war Christian anyway?)

It is one of the reasons We have war and murder.

-IT'S ONE OF THE MANY REASONS GOVERNMENT PROHIBITS THE PEACEFUL PLANT. WITH IT, PEOPLE WILL NOT SUPPORT THEIR WARS.

& in the U.S.A., I have not lived a day without My nation at war.

Don't let anything get in between You and the "spirit of truth." It's the ONE THING YOU CAN TAKE WITH YOU.

As Alpe points out he didn't vote for the law(s) because they were written kind of flimsy.. I kind of agree.
What we must do as a state of emergency..esp in California..we have to have banking laws that dovetail with legal drugs sales, cultivation and transportation. I ride my bike past dozens of pot sales dispensaries.. they are stuffed w cash and are surely on the robbery radar of criminals at every level..we can't have business locations that are publicly proclaimed to be business without banking.. seeing long lines of pot buyers and never seeing an armored car is a public safety risk not worth taking..
We have to send young kids on vacation while we sort out how Jeff Sessions talks... when he describes pot as an equal threat to the public as opioids, heroin and meth young curious minds, young educated minds know he is full of sh!t..
They are living in a completely separate reality from Sessions scary pot overdose scenario..
We need clear laws about operation of motor vehicles while under the influence of weed or THC, cannabis based products.
If the cops don't have a testing system in place.. let's wait.. I ride in E.County San Diego 3-5 days a week.. the number of cars I *personally* observe texting and talking on phone is way scary.. depending on time of day many cars have operators vaping or smoking weed.. nowhere near close to trouble texting but I see it as a problem..

It depends which drug. I am open to decriminalization of heroin. But not cannabis or methyl amphetamine (Ice).

Heroin is a very expensive street drug and decriminalising it has hugely reduced supply and demand in Portugal. But using Ice can be a cheaper night out than buying legalized, taxed and controlled alcohol. Yet alcohol still has a far worse total society impact than illicit drugs. You cannot legalise Ice it is too cheap in the form it is used. I know people who have used ice and I know what it does to people. Don't even think about it.

My opposition to cannabis is having seen its effect on a guy I knew who topped my grade at school in his graduation year (HSC, year 12). He could have gained entry to study anything he wanted at university (e.g. Medicine or Vet science), instead he was delivering the mail to my parents house for the next 10 years. Cannabis destroys your self motivation. You feel great while your world crashes down around you.

One person is a pretty small study, but I'll see your one and offer one. One of the people on my team is a daily user of mj and she is one of the most motivated, creative people that I have worked with. She has educated herself on the varieties that provide her with the outcome she wants. She had terrible anxiety that was being treated with lab chemicals that made her nauseous and tired. As I've stated above in this thread, adults should have the choice.

You can also read above for how mj has helped my mom (EDIT: page 1, June 2015).

I totally support MJ for medicinal puposes - glad to know it has helped your mom. I will maintain my opposition to it for recreational use. I have read a lot more opinion than my single example.

Let me start by saying I'm not trying to 'get you', I am truly curious why you care what other adults use for recreation? Are you opposed to alcohol too? How do you feel about the lives destroyed and lost to pharma dope?

I'm not sure if you've read the entire thread so I will retype this: even if it becomes legal in ID, I'm not sure that it will chose it over beer or tequila. I say not sure because my body is really starting to show the effects of enjoying speed (MPH, not meth) and the resulting high speed slams into the ground. When NSAIDs aren't enough anymore, I'm definitely going to try mj instead of pharma dope, but then its medicinal so...

Lets keep alcolhol (legal and regulated) and pharma (misused) out of this discussion. I am referring to "illicit" drugs. Why do I care? Mainly on economics grounds and in the case of Ice - it can't be controlled and destroys people. For MJ, the world if it recovers from the current coronavirus crisis will quickly start to worry about the economy. A populace of too many people on MJ won't do anything for productivity. I am also fearful of how drugs like MR can lead to more harmful drugs like crystallised methyl amphetamine. In my view they should be strongly discouraged if not made illegal for other than medicinal purposes. Same reason we stop people speeding in their cars - for their own good and/or safety of others.

I think that you have a 'stoner' vision of people who use mj. The lady on my team who is a daily user and like I said very productive, might be only one example, but I think that you might be surprised at how many successful people use some form of THC. EDIT: Many pro athletes are users of THC products and it would be tough to argue that they aren't pretty productive people. It could be argued that their use is medicinal though I guess.

The things that kept me from using it beyond a few times in the '80s was that I didn't want to inhale smoke, and I didn't want to break the law (and/or get caught). Steaming THC, and especially edibles,/oils eliminate one barrier, but there's still the legal issue here in ID.

I don't buy the 'gateway drug' argument either because if that was the case, a lot more of the people I knew/know would be junkies/dead. Beer is at least as much of a gateway drug as mj. The older brother who gets beer for kids is the same older brother who gets mj for them so I'm not convinced by the 'exposure to the drug dealer' argument either.

I think that the point of the OP was that mj shouldn't be illicit so that really is the discussion. mj is illicit in part because tobacco companies didn't want it competing with their products. EDIT: big pharma is fighting it now for the same reason.

It does become an interesting discussion though when framed as doing things for safety. Is beer safe? Is mj safe? Is ice safe? Is high fructose corn syrup safe? Is pharma dope safe (even used correctly)? What parameters are used to determine what is safe?

Thanks for discussing!

Alcohol contributes to far more deaths than marijuana. I think a major reason why society tolerates alcohol is this productivity myth. You can work hard all week, then seek release by getting drunk on the weekend. Whereas if you take marijuana often, you may begin to question the rat race. The other argument, closely related, is that chronic marijuana use may result in cognitive deficits. But the same is true for alcohol, and heavy alcohol consumption can cause significant brain damage.

In any case, the numbers I've seen indicate that marijuana is used by an enormous number of people in the U.S., so if it had really harmful social effects, why don't we see them? Contrast this with the stats on worker days lost to alcohol.

How do you know you don't see them? I have seen stats that illicit drugs are hugely over represented in car accidents. In my country they now test for drugs not just alcohol when driving. Alcohol is free, legal and regulated thus is why it is used (and abused) far more widely and of course the overall harmful effects are greater. No way do I believe marijuana is used to the same extent as alcohol. I simply don't believe that.

Is ice safe? What parameters are used to determine what is safe?

You are wlecome. But please don't ask if Ice is safe. It is absolutely the most dangerous subtance out there and nobody knows how they will respond to it even if supplied in a controlled dose. If anyone has evidence Portugal has controlled Ice via its policies I'd be happy to hear about it. How do you control a substance which is cheaper to use for a big night out than taxed, regulated and controlled alcohol?

I wonder if I can broaden, hopefully not hijack, the discussion in this thread by including another very popular form of behavior that’s enjoyed by millions, but is potentially addictive, and no question has destroyed some lives: gambling.

I have no problem with many forms of gambling—especially those that aren’t completely based on luck, like sports betting--but one place I do draw the line is with lotteries. I don’t think the state should be in the business of promoting gambling.

Here are three major problems I have with lotteries:
  • They promote the false idea that statistics don’t matter, that regardless of how high the odds are stacked against you, you have a very good chance of making more money than you lose; or at the least, the amount of money you lose is worth the chance of hitting it big.
  • They promote the notion that it’s all right to succeed sheerly through luck. Luck does play a major, and probably underappreciated, role in our lives, but there’s a big difference between some break that perhaps leads to a better job, or some innovation, valuable connections with others, and so on, on the one hand, and one highly improbable event that makes the difference between being set for life and having to work for most of the rest of that life. I frankly think it’s obscene that anyone would be overjoyed at this prospect.
  • They imply that it’s an equitable use of money for a very large majority of people in effect to support a handful of individuals, not because of any merit on their part, but solely through chance. People who play the lottery are suckers. There’s no law against being a sucker, but again, the state doesn’t have to endorse the idea.
I get that lotteries can be a significant source of income for states. I think this is blood money. States could make a lot of money selling certain drugs, too. That’s not considered a sufficient reason for them to do so.

I think all forms of gambling that are based purely on luck—such as slot machines, and many other types of gambling in casinos—are dumb, but I understand that for many people the money they lose on a trip to a casino is worth the experience. In any case, I’m not going to tell other people what to do with their money. But this doesn’t mean the state has to support this idea.

The reaction in the brain (entire body really I guess) for those addicted to gambling is similar to that of other addicts when they get their fix.

There are certainly other parallels with gambling and drugs in your assertion like why does 'the man' get to decide which forms are legal and which are illegal?

I just watched a report about the pretty large increase of drug overdose during the C19 pandemic. mj wasn't on the list, but... The issue seems to be less about people doing more to drown their sorrows, but instead its people doing drugs that they are not (as) familiar with so they overdose more easily than they might on their drug of choice. Just like other things, drug are in high demand and so there are shortages of certain drugs in certain regions.

There is also a shortage of people to help during the pandemic.

I think that is a similar story to the people who have tried to break free from Rx buy moving to more dangerous street drugs and then overdosing.
