Gabriel Cullaigh - the dude who followed Niki Terpstra's cobbled attack in Le Samyn as if it was a between intervals cooldown - won the stage of the small Portuguese Volta ao Alentejo race.

This race also has Beñat Intxausti in it but he lost 8 minutes and finished in the last three-man group on the second stage. It really does not seem like he will ever get back.

MvdP jumped from the peloton to the breakaway group with 35km to go.

Peloton now in full pursuit with Roompot mainly doing all the work
I just tuned in too late. How big was the gap he had to bridge?

Also, what finish is this? Roompot riding for Boom, but i don't know in what universe he would drop Mathieu or beat him in a sprint.

I think Mathieu should stop riding, the gap is closing.
Mathieu will always ride no matter what, he prefers fun over waiting. Besides he's done this before. Just attacking without success, but then casually winning the sprint against Bouhanni in Limburg and most notably the national championships.

I know his attitude, but he was doing most of the work. He should manage his efforts. He won't be able to finish it off every time if he keeps waisting energy...

Now he's gone solo, this is more interesting.

So how strong was Mathieu today? Really cant wait for the real classics with those 2 guys.

Edit: He doesnt seem to have E-3 or Roubaix on the schedule, damn
I still think this is a good call. Not saying he'd be useless at PR, but i think he's a better fit for Amstel even. So, if he had to cut into the program, i think he made the right call. Probably next year though.

Yeah, he should be better suited to Amstel.

Might just be me being my usually silly self, but I think Wallonie-Bruxelles missed out on a great opportunity here.
