Thanks!
Probably a dumb question I know, but this is the first year I've followed professional bike racing this closely. Why are there so many DNFs in these smaller 1 day races?
Thank you. That makes sense.Because there is not the same prestige in finishing as there is in the bigger ones.
So if a domestique has done his job, or a rider is too far behind to get a result, it sometimes makes more sense to just stop. Especially if - like yestarday at Veneto - it's on a lap, so they pass the finish line several times, making it quite easy to just get off the bike and into the bus.
The splendid scenery offered by the roads of the Veneto Region will once again close the international professional calendar and the Ride the Dreamland review. Year after year, the Veneto Classic is in fact establishing itself as the prestigious final event of the year, with spectacular, uncertain routes and many champions battling it out between sprints and counter-sprints. Climbs, walls, cobblestones, dirt roads and cities of art, the race now shines with its own light, combining the spectacle that the riders offer with that of the Venetian landscapes.
The 2024 edition will start from Soave (Verona) and will head to the Vicenza area by overcoming the Monteviale climb, passing through Sandrigo, the home city of PP Sport Events, the organizing company of the race, and then Nove, where a sprint finish line is placed in memory of Jacopo Venzo, the young junior who passed away last year due to a fall at the Tour of Austria who lived in Nove.
After that, the Veneto Classic will enter 'its' roads, those that have made it so appreciated in these first years of its life. First there is the La Rosina circuit, 12.6 km long and which will have to be repeated twice. The climb, 2.1 km long with an average gradient of 6.5%, already the scene of battles in the Giro del Veneto and Giro d'Italia several times, represents the center of the world for passionate cyclists in the area, and also in this Veneto Classic is proposed as a useful scenario to open hostilities.
At that point it will be time for the La Tisa circuit, a short cobblestone sector of 330 meters at 15.2%, brought to the fore by Pozzato and his team for the first time at the 2020 Italian Championships. 12.4 km long, this circuit will have to be repeated 4 times in full, but the climb will have to be overcome one more time, since the riders will face it even before entering the ring. Once out of the circuit, there will be 16 km to go.
The wall of La Tisa is also where the Veneto Classic will assert its most festive soul: along the climb, in fact, a special area will be set up where you can drink beer and eat a hamburger – accompanied by a DJ set to warm up the environment even more – applaud the riders in the 5 passages on the climb and follow the rest of the race on the specially installed giant screen. In short, with the Tisa Party you will have a taste of Flemish atmosphere on the beautiful Venetian roads.
Before the arrival in Bassano, however, there is still a roughness, the wall of Diesel Farm, the wine tailor's shop, 1300 meters of dirt road at 10.9% average gradient, 10 km from the finish. Then there is the short and dry ramp of Contrà Soarda (400 meters at 13%), where last year the winner Davide Formolo went alone, before going along Contrà San Giorgio and viale Diaz. After passing the Ponte Nuovo in the center, at Piazzale Cadorna sharp turn left on Via Porto di Brenta, last effort in Via Portici Lunghi to climb the squares and reach the finish line in Piazza Libertà.
All good things must come to an end and the Veneto Classic 2024 on Sunday 20th seems to be the finale of the 2024 road season. Soave to Bassano del Grappa 191.7 km (1.pro), start at 12.05 CET, TV from 15.00 CET (hopefully!)

Some steep hills, some cobbles, some dirt roads, in other words, all the fun of the fair!

Up early to catch Veneto Classic and . . . It’s tomorrow . I figured it was a Sunday race like the other Italian weekend classics like Lombardia . . .
Seeing as I so spectacularly failed to stay awake for the finale of the Tour of Guangxi I'm totally stoked I'll be awake for this final road race of the season. The scenery should be lovely, and Nairo and Magnus Cort are on the start list! All good things must come to an end and the Veneto Classic 2024 on Sunday 20th seems to be the finale of the 2024 road season. I'd be tempted to start a thread (don't even say it, RhD!), but the race is already more than halfway through and my TV coverage won't start for another 20 minutes. At least Rob has posted a map and hopefully it'll be understood that we're all talking about the Veneto Classic race. Can we make a thread for the last race of the year, for old times sake. I’ll miss it

Cort for the win!Everyone knows the best cyclist in the world is the one who has won the most recent good race, ergo whoever wins this is the champ at least for next few months.
