Great race for Q36.5 taking the overall and three stages.

Jayco were complete fools today, they prefered having several riders with Groenewegen instead of getting them into the second group to save Hatherly's podium from the Uno-X riders.

Jayco have been tactically inept so far this season. When you consider the second group was so often 10 to 15 seconds behind, while DeBod bridged alone from the second group, then Jayco needed to drop back one if not two riders. Think Groenewegen was bluffed by Merlier and waited too long to launch his sprint.

Have a look at the points competition in the Alula Tour. Pidcock won. 4 riders on 30 points.

If it is on placing,
Pidcock : 172
Merlier : 173
Molano : 174
Groenewegen : 194

I don't think I have ever seen such a close points competition.

If it's February then it's time for the Grand Prix Cycliste la Marseillaise (1.1) Sunday the 2nd is the day for a trip from Marseille to Marseille 164.2 km, start at 11.30 CET, TV from 15.15 CET.

No Astana/Team Vino so Cofidis especially will be looking for UCI points although Arkéa are here with Vauquelin. A high of 14C after some early rain, so the weather gods are being kinder then in recent editions.

Thanks for the link!

There's also the men's Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race coming up in just a few hours, but being I've never watched it before I don't know whether you guys discuss it here or in the Hot Racing in Australia thread. The startlist is very similar to the recent TDU one and here's a map and profile, and I can just move them to the Oz thread if that's what people would prefer.

in case of a tie, 1st criteria is stage wins (Pidcock and Merlier both have two, the other two none), and 2nd GC. So although the result is the same, it was not based on placings.
