Byron Munton is on a Portuguese team, though. Zac Marriage is the surprise interloper - though I would also point out that even in arguably the single most absurd stage of W52's domination, Guarda 2017, Krists Neilandts - of the Israel Cycling Academy team - was the guy that stayed with Alarcón and Antunes through most of their exploit. The Israel team has a good record here for sure.

Zac Marriage came 2nd in the rebranded Aussie pro velo Super League to jack Ward in which the winner would get a stagiare contract with Jayco ( and for certain a pro contract). However, ward rejected the jayco offer to join the Lidl trek Conti team. At the same time, Marriage strangely joined the Phillipine registered 7 eleven team and has ridden an obscure program. I thought he may get the stagiare contract with jayco, however, he's riding as a stagiare for IPT.

With no Colin Stüssi in the race this year it's great to see a new foreigner emerge onto the scene. The French commentators and experts will quickly have to learn how to butcher his name.

I picked Lucas Lopes for this year's emerging riders game in the hope that he could become the next Afonso Eulálio and now he's starting to leave his mark.

Interview with Alexander Salby at the Trans-Himalaya Cycling Race - it's is quite the story - including racing at 4,300 metres altitude

His team is sponsored by Li-Ning, the Chinese equivalent to Decathlon and they have also presented their first own road bike frames this year.

Pena looks good free from the WT prison, seems to have done the most work on the climb. Bike Exchange should've done the Volta!
To be honest Jayco never really gave him much of a chance. They treated him really poorly and his Development has suffered a lot as a result.

Pena is a WT calibre rider. I was hoping that a team like Astana or Picnic would pick him up at the start of the year and i still hope that a team goes for him.

Pena is part of the lost Colombian generation that dominated the 2019 Baby Giro, alongside Diego Alba and Ardila (all for different reasons). Only Rubio is still kicking at WT level.

Yeah I thought Ardila would become great, but with his knee it just never came to be. That Giro he was magnificent, I still remember how awed I was by his performances.

But he won a big race yesterday. ;)
