Beautiful Volta moment as Pedro Silva goes up the road for Anicolor, followed by Fábio Costa also of Anicolor, which draws Peña - 2nd on GC - away and makes Anicolor's team leader in the camisola amarela have to react. It does have some perverse logic behind it (the slow-down and looking at each other following Nych chasing Peña down has allowed Silva to get out of sight rather than just hanging off the front of the group, and as he's only 2'24 down on GC, others will have to pace to avoid him getting too far away), but it still brings back memories of Voltas of old.

Edit: when Peña goes properly, Nych is first to respond, and Cadena! Oh, here's mythical Bairon Manton... and then they go again and it's just the two of them, Cadena pacing the second group, and Nych now has two riders up the road thus proving the great wisdom of Anicolor's tactics (!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

2nd edit: and during the time I was typing that, the Russian has dropped Peña who is now being anchored by an Anicolor domestique. August is finally being August. Chasers are Munton, Cadena, del Pino, Bustamante and Tiago Antunes. PetroLike only have 3 riders left in the race so it's a lonely trip for Cadena now. Peña is trying to claw his way back onto Nych, but he's now behind all three fluorescent boys.

Silva's dropped now, so they won't be three of them hugging at the finish. They won't win the stage anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Caicedo has caught Leaça from the splintered remains of the break. He looks stronger and is a more established rider too, to be fair. I think Leaça might be hitting the wall.

They were effing around a bit, but now that Caicedo has gone solo I think he will hold on, although the gap is only 50 seconds now.
