Although the race profiles are not particularly appealing, the race deserves its own thread, as the finish line of the third stage is only 500 metres from my apartment.

I contacted the race organisers regarding the route selection for stage 3 because, to be honest, I think it's a real shame that the stage will probably end in a boring sprint, despite the potential that the region has to offer. When Kassel was chosen as the destination, the original plan was to ride the Essigberg (300 metres of elevation gain) in the west of Kassel shortly before the finish.

Here is the translated version, what the race organizer responded to me:

"We had actually considered entering Kassel via the road you mentioned in Druseltal/Ehlener Straße. However, there is a tram turning loop in the city area with tracks running parallel to the road, which unfortunately made this passage impossible. As much as we would like to take in every hill in the region (there are still a few north of Kassel), there are limiting factors such as motorway exits and railway crossings that we have to take into account. A final lap in Kassel was also planned at one point, which would certainly have made the whole thing even more exciting – but unfortunately this could not be implemented for organisational reasons."

Not an overly challenging route indeed, but I think it's a pretty good field for a course like this, and the late bonus sprints should spice things up quite a bit as well.

For today's finish (and tomorrow's start) the race visits my home region, which hasn't been the case since Assan Bazayev won in Bielefeld in 2006. Still, a couple more hills wouldn't hurt, of course.

I fully expected the next words to be "500 metres is too far".

Should I move the posts already in the Lesser known races thread to here?

As per PCS the great late Sercu won a stage starting in Essen back in 1979 beating the likes of Peeters, Thurau, Knetemann and Moser. A tactical mastermind, race awareness and intuition second to none imo.

Anyway the parcous offers enough to make a race if the riders steps up, but its going to be really tough to avoid a bunch sprint today.

Milan ftw.
