Bloody hell. That's really bad news.
Imo someone like Anton should be able to do pretty well in a race like this as well. He finished 14th last year in I think his first attempt.

He finished 6th two years ago.

What a shame, there is always something with Anton. It's almost bizarre how that guy has one top-10 in a GT af 7 years as a pro.

Antón is an old-fashioned pure climber. He has all of the traditional weaknesses - i.e. everything except climbing. Sadly, in today's péloton the disappearing on the first mountain never to be seen again type breaks are fewer and further between, and that leaves him riding in the péloton much more, where his poor bike handling skills come under more pressure. Also, being fragile and small, he gets ill easily and his form is very transient, and when he inevitably gets involved in crashes due to his nervous disposition in the group, he tends to get hurt too.

Anton is not really in top form and I don't believe he was doing the Giro this year either so I don't think this is going to have much impact on his season

Agreed. It might even be better for him. He felt tired for some reason, now he can rest and think hard about how to perform on a higher level in the rest of the season.

L'Equipe's picks today for Liege-Bastogne-Liege:
Gilbert and Rodriguez *****
Sanchez ****
Valverde, F. Schleck, Vanendert ***
Voeckler, Gerrans, Cunego **
Nibali, Gasparotto *

Cunego way underrated, and Sanchez way overrated IMHO

I still think Samu should be considered here- he had good form as of a week ago and i think would have gone better at AGR- than if he had expended energy chasing.

Don't think Sanchez really wants to be here. I think he'll be content to take some WT points back home
