Wow that's a lot of money out of my pocket, In February the entire Liberty Seguros team was in my wind tunnel doing time trial training, and nozal seemed like such a nice guy. That's cycling for you.

One of the top myths about doping: "he can't be doped. he's a nice guy". That has zero influence in it. zero.

Surely if he had been good enough, he would have been picked up by a decent Spanish team.

Spanish teams are every bit as dirty.

Well, nothing, it appears, changes at good ol' Liberty Seguros.

Not the same team :)

That's not what I'm saying, I know a lot of nice guys in cycling that have been caught. All I was saying is that he's a good guy, it just show that good guys dope too.

I'll go to your "wind tunnel". Maybe I'll get the "Drag Factors" that I need to improve my calculations.

I know. just elaborating on your point :)

"Let's cut that penis off. It's too much wind resistance"

Speaking of which, I wonder if the uniballer has an unfair aerodynamic advantage. Would YOU cut off your left nut to be more aero?

I know, but nobody flies too far from home. As sponsors they must be well pissed.

So I've heard.

I'm beginning to think there's an element of: "It'll never happen to me," with these guys.
Also, you cut your cloth according to your means............
Which, again, makes Di Luca, the anomaly disproving the theory.

With this news I can finish the chapter on one of the most amazing stories in modern Pro Cycling - a real eye opener for anyone who has doubts to the corruption and deceit within the sport.

Nuno Ribeiro neo pro with Liberty Seguros Wurth was 'caught' at 52% hct prior to the Giro in May 2005. Saiz was quick to voice his shock saying "all riders had a HCT of 48%".
Saiz then made a very public announcement 2 weeks later that Ribeiro was sacked by the team! ...(he was in fact moved to the Portuguese team Liberty Seguros - which at the time was the 'feeder' team of LSW).

Exactly a month after Ribeiro was caught - Nozal was 'caught' at the Dauphine, again for 52%. Saiz again said publicly he was shocked and that all his riders had passed the checks performed by the team.

Now Nozal was no Ribeiro- he was 6th in the Vuelta and was Heras key superdomestique - but with the precedent set just 2 weeks earlier surely Saiz had no option but to fire the rider?

Of course not - this is Pro Cycling - Saiz sacked the Doctor! ;)

They've already removed sponsorship of the team effective immediately.

Official from Héctor Guerra:

Hoy me he visto sorprendido por la noticia. No entiendo que haya dado positivo. Han sido 7 años en el campo profesional y he disfrutado mucho haciendo lo que más me gusta: montar en bicicleta. Nunca he tomado, bajo mi responsabilidad, conocimiento y consentimiento, esta sustancia ni otra que estuviera prohibida para la competición. Así, mi única declaración es que soy inocente y nunca me he dopado.

Even without the means to afford a script writer he should have done better...

I don't get it. Why is it that every rider busted for EPO this year is using CERA? Once it became detectable, it seems like a very bad choice because it stays in the system so long.

How long does it stay in the system?

Perhaps these three guys had it worked out that they would be clear by the start of the Tour of Portugal but got caught out because they were tested 2 days before the start.

It is very unusual to be tested 2 days prior to a big tour.

Another example of lower paid and late career riders getting caught.

Schumacher got caught for CERA at the Olympics. If he has half a brain in his head, he stopped using it after Ricco's positive was announced at the TdF. That is a big time gap.

The Liberty Seguros team is officially over.

That's another DS who spreads organized doping out of the sport then :)

Heh. Even Gianni Savio's comment was (I'm paraphrasing) "I'm extremely surprised. That Rebellin tested positive? No, not at all. That he was dumb enough to use something everyone knew was detectable"

Well Manolo drove Once out of the sport with his doping program with that team, so hopefully no sponsor is stupid enough to go for try #3 on the Saiz roulette wheel.

Again: It's not the same team. It's a different team with the same sponsor. It's not the second try of the roulette wheel because Saiz has nothing to do with the team ;)

It's worth noting that after OP hit, a lot of Spanish riders (Paco Mancebo [after he rode for Relax], Eladio Jimenez, Ruben Plaza, Nuno Ribeiro, Isidro Nozal and Hector Guerra etc.) were signed by Portugese teams because they were on the cheap, in terms of salary, as no team would touch them with a 10ft barge pole.

I have always had my doubts about the credibility of Portugese cycling, like from the signing of Spanish OP cyclists, and last year I read an article on the Tour of Portugal, and when ex ONCE, USPS, Discovery Channel climber Jose Acevedo, who was riding for (now defunct) Benfica, who was keen at the time to set up his own, seemed rather reluncant to set up an anti-doping because of "costs" (this was in a Pro Cycling Magazine article from last year).

And there was a pretty big drugs raid by Portugese police who raided the offices' of a Portugese team last year after they went nuts at Spanish stage race where they took the top 3 spots on the podium (trying to find the team and the race, but my internet is slow).
