I would'nt say other races did'nt matter for Bruyneel. Granted Lance and the Tour was the main objective but he did have Savoldelli and Heras for the Giro and Vuelta remember.

...and Hincapie and briefly Boonen for the cobbled classics until he got smart and jumped ship.

If Contador couldn't see what was stark staring obvious to everyone else in the cycling world when the Armstrong-Bruyneel tandem arrived at Astana, he must have been either blind or stupid.

He had a contract.... go figure the rest

Bruyneel escalating Schleck conflict
Frank Schleck's exit from the Giro d'Italia on Sunday is obviously not a complete discussion topic at Team RadioShack-Nissan. Team Manager Johan Bruyneel screwed further conflict button yesterday during an interview with the Luxembourg radio station RTL.
Frank Schleck

Already Sunday, one could read Bruyneels immediate reaction in several Belgian media. And not long after, Frank Schleck's explanation via the team website. But Monday was Bruyneel interviewed by RTL, and here was the knife has been sharpened considerably.

"Frank had a shoulder injury on the 11th stage, but he did not seem to suffer serious consequences from it. It certainly was not an injury that warranted that he left the race. How did it not at all on me, "said Bruyneel.

In the Sunday interview that Bruyneel took part, denied that he, Kim Andersen and the Luxembourg rider had met on Saturday night, but in the radio interview yesterday confirmed he suddenly that the meeting had taken place.

"I had heard rumors that he would leave the race, so I asked him directly, while I looked him straight in the eye if it was true. He assured me that it was not in any way. It calmed me, and I was convinced that he had the chance to go on the podium. And then I suddenly finds that he is going off after a ridiculously small number of kilometers on Sunday. Of course I'm not happy, "foamed Bruyneel.

Johan Bruyneel was naturally asked about whether the team manager's intention to set an example by example, dropping Frank Schleck of RadioShack-Nissan Tour de France team, and thus let the younger brother Andy do without big brother's help?

"The rules are the same for everyone. I have not taken the team, and it happens later. No one is present. safe. And he (Frank Schleck) should just be happy that he gets to ride the Tour of Luxembourg, "was the stark message!

It seemed, however, in the interview as if the Belgian team manager was equally furious at the team's immediate placement on the UCI rankings, as he was over Frank Schleck's performance.

"We are currently listed for two wins, and it is totally inadequate. Well actually it is a scandal. We are almost over in June, so it's high time that everyone has a wonderful time together and doing its work to break this negative spiral "

Love it... :p

I wonder what would happen if Bruyneel took Fränk out of the Tour team. If Andy would be motivated to work harder by it or the other way around.

It's funny that it was pretty much from the point Fränk crashed out that Andy started doing good in the 2010 Tour.

Would be great, if Jens had a little talk with Fränk about professionalism.
As one wrote yesterday, he was captain in the second biggest stage race in the world, with his teammates working very hard for him over two weeks.

And he threw that away for......for what???

Is it any different than what Andy and Stuey did at the Vuelta the other year. Its all very tiresome.

Looks like we will see one more historical division Andy at Dauphine and Franky at Tour of Swiss. Bruyneel needs another combination to destroy Frank's Tour GC ambitions.

Although Jens stuck the knife in Riis so he's one not to lecture.

Andy riding the Dauphine was planned from the very beginning.
ToL ends on the third of June, Dauphiné starts one day after.

So that's not a surprise at all.

also I'm sure bruyneel will force his hand and leave frank out of the tour. he's already been trying for months to seperate the brothers, which is also the thing that must happen for andy to become anything

Oh no, Fränk lied to Bruyneel! It's outrageous! When we all know that the most important ingredient in the relationship between rider and DS is TRUST!

Good grief. This is probably the only occasion when riders changing teams (you know the kind of thing that happens often and every year) is called sticking the knife in somebody.

Especially seeing that Riis couldn't find a sponsor anyways

Lolwut...?

Riis didn't find a sponsor until during/after the Tour when he secured the Contador deal, by then most riders like to have a contract in their pocket

He had Sungard. Saxobank decided to continue only when he got Alberto.

Not quite true Flo, Riis didnt have a signed contract with Saxo bank during the tour AT THE TIME Jens decided to leave the team, same thing with Matti, they had to act. The agreement with Saxo bank only came as a combination of the contract with Berti and Sungaard, otherwise the contract would never have been signed. This was the reason for the long delay from Saxo bank signing a new contract. ;)

Isn't that exactly what I said, only elaborated?

If I remember correctly Sungard was brought in as the main sponsor, until Saxobank decided to renew.

As I recall it Riis was not able to offer new contracts until he had Saxo Bank back but it is only a detail, in any case I think we can all agree that Jens didn't put the knife to Riis

He and many others should've been open to Bjarne. They should've just told him that they wanted to leave.

Indeed. Cancellara leaving the Vuelta mid-stage and climbing a fence to avoid Riis was as bad as it got. Those guys haven’t learnt a thing. They’ll keep on doing it.
