Yes, they will have several leaders and see who will evolve as the strongest during the race :D....

They need several leaders as they are bound to lose a few on the decents. Last year all of them crashed out, and those chances havent exactly declined by signing the Frandies :D

Btw I would really have liked to see an Armstrong comeback with the 2 bro's. The Frandie vs Sastre drama would be nothing compared to that (0;

I am generally am good with Phil Liggett. A sports announcer has to remain enthusiastic about their call, appeal to a broad audience, or face unemployment. His enthusiasm also appeals to those who are becoming interested sport. It certainly did to me some 25 years ago. I am really grateful for that because it was a part of an interest that led of some good racing years.

It is all to easy nitpick a call if you've race or are an educated fan, and I think I even blasted a post off in your direction last night, but maybe gaffed and missed the real issue. That said Phil, we own you a lot.

Now that I've dated myself, you can probably sense I building to something here.

I am going to have to call Phil out on a failure at fair play. As an announcer and a supporter of cycling he should know the importance of sponsorship. It is important to give sponsors their due.

Why is Radio Shack Nissan Trek a "mouthful" when it has the same number of syllables as Omega Pharma Quickstep or the former Omega Pharma Lotto? I certainly never have heard Phil or Paul call the later a "mouthful."

If the issue is the third sponsor being tolerated, then say so!

Surly he can manage Radio Shack Nissan with the occasional reference to the Trek bike if he has an issue.Perhaps Phil has been influence of the the diatribe voiced at Radio Shack Nissan Trek on this forum over the third sponsor use.

One thing is for certain. It certainly not a matter of pronunciation.

I could argue that it is more of a tongue-twister than 'Omega Pharma Lotto', but it doesn't matter. The correct name according to the UCI is RadioShack-Nissan.

Somebody on the forum has been calling it Team Datsun. Works for me. :D

On the Bruyneel's tactics bit -
I'm actually expecting Team Datsun to be marked by more attacking this year in smaller races. A bunch of these guys are going to be looking for new teams next year, and thus scooping up UCI points will be a priority. If the team follows traditional Bruyneelian ways, where only the TdF and AToC count, guys will be at races without much of a centralized team goal. This means they have a lot more freedom to go in breaks and try to grab some points for themselves - to help in next year's transfer market.

Team Datsun could actually end up being surprisingly aggressive this year (other than at the TdF/AToC). Of course none of this would be due to Bruyneel's tactical genius, but I would expect him to take credit for it anyway.

But the team name isn't "Radio Shack-Nissan-Trek", it's "Radio Shack-Nissan". UCI regulations provide:
Article 2.15.050: The name of the UCI ProTeam must be either that of the company or brand name of the principal partner or that of one or both of the two principal partners, or the name of its paying agent. Upon specific request, the Professional Cycling Council may authorize another designation which is linked to the UCI ProTeam project.
http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/10615/UCI-to-prevent-inclusion-of-Trek-name-in-RadioShack-Nissan-team-title.aspx

The two principal partners are Radio Shack and Nissan. Likewise, the two principal partners are Omega Pharma and Quick Step, or Liquigas and Cannondale, Garmin and Barracuda, etc. ....

Phil's absolute butchering of the pronunciation of Nissan is a whole other matter ;)

Right, but their website says in the same type size:

RadioShack
Nissan
Trek

Along with the O from the Old Leopard team to which their was ample discussion I believe on this thread (I'll try to link it up for you) sometime back. As I said, I've no problem with RadioShack-Nissan, but Phil stopped on RadioShack and then said "my that's a mouthful...." Maybe a true Philsm? Paul, I believe, was calling them all three.

For Phil, most rider's names are a challenge so it shouldn't come as a surprise. Plus it being Bruyneel's team, I'm certain no slight was intended at all. He's definitely a strong supporter of anything Bruyneel and the Schleck's do or are a part of.

How did he butcher Nissan then ?

I heard him say Niss An which seems correct to me. Should he be saying NEEE- SARN then ?

Check this out. A youtube post of stage 5:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhtQFiPmoqg

You have to wait until 13:15-14:45. RadioShack-Nissan on the front and footage speeds up and also alters the audio. It's clipped, but I can make out Paul saying "RadioShack-Nissan-"Trek, but the entire reference to the team is messed with. Ha, what a diehard.

Cobo/Menchov Vuelta 2011.

And come to think of it there was also Basso/Nibali in Giro 2010. It never worked for Bruyneel though. Only one approach ever worked for this "master tactician" but I can't describe it in this subforum.

Yeah i have wondered about this too. Europeans + Aussies say it properly (Niss An) whilst Americans say it some weirdo way. (Nee-sarn).

You've got it right with the Nee, but no r. That would be in "darn it" for "dammit," but that's pretty much extinct. Also Nikon with a long i instead of Nic-kon. Don't me ask why. I won't return the favor of Aussie lingo, cause "that's alright any way you do." :p

It´s a bit nemesis for Kim Andersen in my opinion, he left Saxo bank and slammed the door behind him, he wanted more influence and probably a higher salary, now hes back to basic and are now Johans puppy.

Is it any worse than last year? That's a sincere question not a criticism.

Actually yes, he lost Stuart and got no replacement of same caliber, hes so fu..ed.

Wish he would return to Saxo bank, or atleast get a new team who can support him, but I¨m sure if this season also get screewed, he will leave.

Contador/Levi Tour '07

Honestly, it works more than some people would think. Quite a few teams start the race with more than one leader, or have someone with a free role on top of their gc guy

Yeah... O'grady had been always his angular stone always doing a great job and working his azz off for Cancellara... and now Cancellara wont have anyone to read the races as Stuart did it for him.

In last years cobbled classics o'grady was never seen
& anyway considering how old o grady is I would say that roulstoun (top ten 2010), rast (top ten last year) and popovych under 23 roubaix winner all have the ability to do a better job for cancellara than o grady could have.

Leipheimer as co-captain next to Contador? Oh please... That must have been in his own mind and nowhere else.
