I heard many times about him from his Eastern neighbour's equivalent (Peter Selin). Is he Swedish, Italian turned Swedish, just Italian, or what?

He is swedish but has italian parents or at least his mother is italian. He was born in stockholm but lived in Italy between ages 9 and 12 but then moved back to Sweden.

His cycling career is almost entirely swedish and at best he rode for the swedish national team. He was never good enough to become professional. He retired fairly early from cycling in his early 30s and soon afterwards became a commentator on Eurosport and has been so for the last 13 years or so.

His co-commentator is old swedish pro cyclist Anders Adamsson who rode for among others Alfa Lum in the early 80s.

Probably father too, unless he took his mother's surname.

If I may advertise a Cyclingnews "competitor", the Velonews diary by Michael Barry is always a fascinating read.
