Apologies for one error: the live report was not set to refresh automatically. It is now set to do so every 5 minutes.

The live report system is pretty much identical to the way it's been for years. The html and CSS of http://live.cyclingnews.com/latest.html comes to a total of 16kB. If that takes any significant time for you to load (it's instantaneous for me on a broadband link in Sydney) then you really need to upgrade from that acoustic coupler.

SBS has the luxury of not having literally thousands of people whacking their live coverage at the end of a mountain stage. Our live system is designed to keep working under very heavy loads, which means it has to be light.

Thanks for fixing the live coverage, its running much better know. Although the page is reloading better now it still has not fixed the problems with the rest of the site. Its just not pleasent to work with, it needs more clicking around to get to stuff, it loads slow, etc.

I just can see it being my homepage again. I will still visit as its the best source of info, Cycling Central is improving and is easier to navigate.

Can you give me an example of something you want to find that is harder to find than it used to be, and why you find it harder?

Some of it is me, just getting use to the new layout of the site. The old one was around a long time and navigating became almost instinctual. Hopefully over time this will lessen.

The other part is dealing with the carousel. I use to just open each news article by opening a new tab/page so that I did not have to reload the homepage by going back and forth. I cant do this unless the article has moved down. The other problem is that I can no longer read the site on my phone and its problematic at work due to all the flash.

I realise that it must be hard on you guys with all the negative comments that have been coming out about the site, mind you considering some of the things that have been said in on my regular bunch ride its been fairly restrained.

The one common thread with all this is the carousel. I can remember when you polled all that time ago and the one thing that went through my mind was that I hoped you would not go down the line that Bike Radar did. A thought that was shared by most people I talked to. Unfortunately for reasons I am still not sure why you did.

As I mentioned before I will persevere with the site due to the content, but as other sites improve you are coming under pressure.

Can I give an example too? A mobile version of the Live Updates! If there still is one I certainly can't find it!

We are aware of this and it will be fixed as soon as possible - most likely for stage 3.

Thanks

Daniel

Too many points to be fixed, and "as soon as possible" is too far from now, and too far from the point you are, Daniel.
Sorry, big mistakes, here... no way it will work with CN readers.
There're changes before - a lot of it.
But not this big mess.
If it were a paid service, I'd quit some time ago, for sure.

And if I fly the blimp tomorrow, someone will complain about that, too.

What's that old saying, you can't please all the people all the time?

Susan

Oh, Susan, don't play this common excuse, please.
Not exactly your comments or stile, it's only 1% of the problem, but things are not OK, you can be sure.
The new site format is really a lot worse.

But this thread is about the live reports, and I was responding to comments about the live report style.

Comments about the new site have their own thread(s).

The issue under discussion here was fixed last week.

We are working very hard to take on board people's comments about the site and make improvements, but we are sadly unable to accommodate people who are travelling backwards through time.

What's the bike riding like in your tachyon universe?

Maybe I've lost track of the which issue is under discussion, but as far as I can see, the current situation is still appearing at the bottom of every live report page - spoiling the stage before I start! Are you working on that?

Yes we are.
