Will this be Lance's get out of jail card once the "old news" doping story subsides?

Sean Penn, Ben Stiller, Robin Williams and Donald Trump all lining up to support the Cancer Jesus.

"On Saturday, more than 100,000 American Football fans, and millions of TV viewers on ABC, will laud the cyclist, and his eponymous foundation, at the start of the second quarter of the College game between Baylor and the University of Texas. The entire student section, which seats 17,000, will simultaneously don specially designed Nike shirts, promoting Armstrong's Livestrong brand."

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...fuses-to-accept-a-heros-downfall-8210381.html

There needs to be more exposure on the history of Livestrong, the early cancer research story, the finances & expenses of this "non-profit", the PR apparatus behind it (Demand Media, etc) and an insight into its real contributions to cancer. So that people really understand what they are buying.

It just goes to show you that Bertolt Brechts "Unhappy is the land in need of heroes." is still true in the USA today.

Dear Lance,

Donald Trump? Really? Remember The Fonze on Happy Days when he was water skiing and he launched over that amphibious carnivore?

That is your scene now.

Exit stage left dude, before it's too late. Just exit stage left.

Sincerely,
Moi

That observer article was bizarre.

Wiggins and Brailsford's integrity is unchallengeable, although Sky's zero tolerance stance is open to questions???..... What exactly does that mean? Does it mean the author doesn't feel like he is allowed to challenge their integrity, although he is allowed to ask about Sky's PR BS??

It's not like the guy struggles to string a sentence together e.g.:

"The manifest failings of the UCI must be addressed. In return, athletes must accept that suspicion will be the neutral observer's default position until change is tangible."

And how exactly does the author know that 100,000 football fans won't flip Lance the bird instead of lauding him and 17,000 in the student seats won't pull a brown eye instead of pulling on their livewrong t-shirts?

Bizarre. Restated.

Livestrong is all about the commercialisation of cancer and the exploitation of human generosity, hope and trust. The beneficiaries are Armstrong and Nike.

If you couldn't read it, this gem was near the bottom:

The real victims are those cancer sufferers, who invested in the mirage of his magnificence. Perhaps, instead of concentrating on the Livestrong celebrations, they should listen to the authentic voice of Lance Armstrong, as expressed the Usada report: "I can destroy you… We are going to ****ing tear you apart… I am going to make your life a living ****ing hell."

Disturbing. thanks for the link.

"Scrutiny of how the state agency selects projects has intensified since May, when its chief scientific officer, Dr. Alfred G. Gilman, a Nobel laureate, resigned in protest after it approved a $20 million commercialization project without scientific review.

Phillip A. Sharp, another Nobel laureate, was among seven scientists who resigned last week, writing in his resignation letter that the agency’s decisions have carried a “suspicion of favoritism” in how the state is handing out taxpayer dollars.

Brian Dynlacht, another scientist who is leaving, warned that the agency was headed down a path of systematic abuses.

“You may find that it was not worth subverting the entire scientific enterprise — and my understanding was that the intended goal of C.P.R.I.T. was to fund the best cancer research in Texas — on account of this ostensibly new, politically driven, commercialization-based mission,” Dr. Dynlacht wrote in his letter."

Yes it's the one piece of an otherwise excellent article that is odd. Here's one of his previous articles from June that may explain, where he states: "We must all make our choice in whom, and what, to believe."

wouldn't it be amazing if Robin Williams has been awakened by Thursday... I could see a watershed stage performance... maybe time to start tweeting Robin, and Sean & Ben? Surely pretty high risk for Livestrong...

"That proactive gesture was sanctioned by Dave Brailsford, whose dual role, in running Team Sky and the Olympic cycling squad, will test, to destruction, his reputation as one of the most visionary figures in British sport. He is a pragmatic man, facing the ultimate test of his principles, and understands the value of transparency."

All hail the new enlightened times and the semi-transparent Brithish hero. Gotcha.

To reinforce the point, the front page of Armstrong's website carries a freshly-posted paean of praise from Sarah O'Leary, who is described as a "marketing expert, public speaker, licensed minister and issues-focused independent"

Nice combo of skills...

Lance stopped being a mere professional cyclist while he was still on his bike, and the accusations against him have had their 15 minutes of fame. Unlike mere mortal performers, Lance lives in rarefied air that only a scant few professional athletes reach.

 Cancer Jezus for reals.

Pretty sad indeed, but true. I live here, I know.

The fools in this country don't learn from others let alone our own mistakes. Shouldn't come as a surprise that so many people here are overmedicated. We have the biggest drug problem in the world. Pharma rules. Land of the dopers. I want to be sedated.

Truly sad and disgusting.

I will have some new reading to do on Brechts. Thanks for that.

The T-Shirts at the football game are a Nike stunt, Texas is a Nike team

Dear wiggo.

The fonz jumped a shark, not an amphibious carnivore.:D

I love that term, and you've used it beautifully.

Donald trump, what a joke
