Taoufik Makhloufi thrown out of the olympics because he didnt try in the 800:cool:

This is the guy who the bbc repeatedly accused of doping with no basis (even this morning they called him controversial) so it was so important that he could challenge for the final.

What a joke. I didnt see T Mart thrown out for doing the same thing in the road race.

Strange developments.

Taoufik Makhloufi reinstated into 1500m final

Q:

How did clown sports like trampoline, beach volleyball and BMX make it into olympic games, while sports played by millions in different countries are left out (like Cricket, Baseball, Billards, to name a few)?

Is it politics or bribes, or both? If it´s bribes, how many millions did the international beach club (or whatever they call the governing body of beach volleyball) throw after the IOC czars?

Serious question...

He himself said during an interview that the technology he uses has existed since the mid nineties or something; In any case, it's quite old. So his rethorical question was something along the lines of "If it has such an advantage, then why is the 400m not dominated by (pre-existing) amputees who all have access to this technology."

That being said

Pistorius can (and will) be discussed further here:

EDIT> I moved subsequent posts on Pistorius to the already existing thread. Please continue the conversation there.

Because there aren't any remotely borderline world class 400 m sprint talents with no legs out there?

Bolt should've been DQ'd for not trying hard enough in the 100 m semis.

Oh, the humanity! Australia has been reduced to using New Zealand to boost its medal tally.

Agree with you about BMX.They claim to try and keep costs down, and then go and remove IP and replace it with a sport that requires an entirely seperate facility for the sake of 2 Medals.

I have just read that NBC, during their broadcast of this years Olympics, shows 20 minutes of commercials every hour.

Is that really true?

Probably, if not more. I usually zap through because I record it, so it doesn't bother me. They paid 1.18 billion dollar (where does that go?), so they need to make that back and then some.

Their coverage is generally good, around 4-6 channels during the day/evening with coverage of most events of that day. Obviously it's generally "biased" towards american participation, which is understandable, and most broadcasters in other countries would do the same. Since the US has such a huge delegation, you get to see a lot of events.

They have made some mistakes though; call it liberal editing techniques - I read they edited out a mistake in a gymnastics competition to create, otherwise absent, suspense during prime time; the delayed the broadcasting of the opening ceremony, so they could run it at prime time (also when most people are at home); the editing out of a part of the opening ceremony, to be replaced with an interview with Phelps; a bunch of commentators that are not knowledgeable, or plain patriots, etc.

Their live app is quite good, pretty good stream quality, and with more coverage, generally of sports the US doesn't or barely features in. The problem here is they insert ads, seemingly at timed intervals, which means the placement doesn't always makes sense (i.e. when you are supposed to see a score, or a result, they cut away)

In general, in the US, I have noticed on other other channels, for example when they show a movie, they leave the last 5-7 minutes of the movie behind a frustratingly long commercial interruption. Meaning, if you really want to see the end of the movie, you'll have to sit through at least 10m of ads. I think a 1.5 hrs movie often turns into a 2:30 hrs recorded event.

Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me.
I have no idea how they are getting away with it. We have 4-6 channels as well broadcasting it all with absolutely minimum of commercials. 3 of the channels without any at all. Thank ****, we have laws against such cruelties.

Yes DD. It´s also still good in germany. But we overtook much of this BS too. Comercials got longer and more often by the years.

Everytime i go to supermarket and buy something i try to remember if i saw a TV add of it. If so, i don´t buy it. Especially if it´s advertised in NFL, Soccer or Olympics. I absolutely boycott those.

What are your least favourite commercials you get to see during the Olympics?

I absolutely loathe all that belong to Turkish Airlines, simply because they pollute my ears with that awful, awful jingle "We are Turkish airlines.... bla bla".
At least, when Wozniaki lost her 1st place in the tennis rankings, I hoped they would drop the commercial featuring her, but no, they just changed " World no 1" to "Top tennis player"...

Also, the Galaxy SIII commercial is just so pretentious that it gets on my nerves. I'm sure no one would ride a bmx down stairs with a super expensive smartphone strapped on the handlebars... Also: Designed for humans - you don't say!

There should be a limit on how often you can broadcast the same commercial.

i hate this lebanon (?) commerical where the man daydreams and the woman speaks. I can´t stand her voice anymore. Thanks god i don´t intend to ever travel to turkey or lebanon. So no tough choice on holding my personal boycott up...

how to upload a screenshot to a post? I just scored 18 in my try to break the 21

Easiest way: press print-scr, go into image editing program, paste, save, then upload it on your facebook account, using "me only" visibility. Then you just put the link to it in IMG tags.
