Last years winner at age 22 Sergio Luis Henao, is the new star in Colombia. Can he win it again before turning to Europe in 2012?

Jos%C3%A9-Rujano-celebra-su-titulo-en-Colombia-con-la-gente-de-Bogot%C3%A1.expand.jpg

Or 2009 winner Jose Rujano who put up arguably the greatest show ever seen in this race. but will he have something left in the tank after winning the giro??

I will post more when I find out but one of the starters is already known. Jose Rujano will ride here with his venezuelan team of gobernacion de zulia, 2 weeks after giro and part of the reason why he has so little racing days in his legs and will be in topshape to latter part of giro so he hopes to also win this race for a 2nd time but competition will be very hard most notably from Sergio Henao(winner 2010), Mauricio Ortega, Francisco Colorado, Freddy Montana, Oscar Sevilla and more.

no teams have been announced but invitations have been send including one to acqua en sapone although I doubt they will ride here.

I read they are going through the state of caldas where the alto letras is and it's a very small state, so I hope they put it in. last time was 2007 when botero put up a show where only ortega could follow, but was destroyed in an incredible downhil of botero.

Would be great to see it (Letras that is). I usually follow the race, but somehow missed the 2007 edition. I'd like to see Atapuma on the podium, and hopefully Beltran will get to ride.

Ah, fair enough. I'm pretty sure Atapuma did the Vuelta when he was 20-21 though, so it is possible.

Yep, just checked: he finished 14th, aged 20.

Brutal stuff. I think the standard has improved a bit since then though - the average age of that top 10 must be about 35!

yeah, duarte did at age 21 as well. I think they want to save quintana for tour avenir and in beltrans case he rides with epm and they have a roster so strong it's a huge fight for who will make the selection but I doubt they will put in any u23 guys I think une will start with these 10:

Mauricio Ortega
Juan Pablo Suarez
Giovanny Baez
Rafael Infantino
Ivan Parra
Francisco Colorado
Javier Gonzalez
Walter Pedraza
Stiver Ortiz
Jaime Castaneda/Freddy Piamonte/Robigzon Oyola

What a kick as team!

What time zone is the race in? Jens mentioned a live stream, is it watchable? I'd like to see some of this if it's on at a reasonable time of day.

Last year a Colombian channel that covers it promised it would be watchable in a small window on the top right of the screen. I tried to watch it but it always just said coverage will come soon and never came.

That was the only stream offered by the forum back then though maybe this year will be different.

Of course you could watch the youtube highlights but considering what type of background music, Im reminded of this nice little post which suggests you might not.

There is nothing in this world that I love more than a cycling photo montage set to some pounding Euro-dance.

Now that you mention it, I think I remember that mythical 'coverage will come soon' channel you speak of.

South American highlight reels are hilarious and great to watch, but let's just say I hope the style doesn't catch on elsewhere.

I also firmly stand by my position on cycling photo montages. They may be ***, but the cultures of Euro-dance and cycling are intertwined and can never be separated. Exhibit A.

LOL.

That's how they spell some names in Antioquia also. It is quite unique for that area of Colombia.
In general Anglo names sound silly to my ears because in Spain they're not very common (although a couple of them like "Jonathan" are not exactly uncommon either). I understand they're more normal in many South American countries, but I can't help but find the Hispanicized spellings hilarious.

colombians cyclists have some of the best names like winner andrew anacona and john darwin atapuma
