Not only do Colombians have the best names, the greatest talent and the best style of riding. In fact, it's also rumored they can turn water into wine, stone into gold, and they are favorites to be the first humans to be able to actually breathe on Mars, because they adapt so well to difficult living conditions.

Good to see theyve moved it a bit.

Theyve learnt their lesson.
Last year this was badly overshadowed by the Tour of Poland.
...and the Tours of Portugal and Burgos, both also coterminous and two of my favouritest races in the world.
The Hitch said:
Last year a Colombian channel that covers it promised it would be watchable in a small window on the top right of the screen. I tried to watch it but it always just said coverage will come soon and never came.

Ah, Señal Colombia. I watched it a few days in there. They only covered the last 20km or so every day, so if they were running late you were just left with "coming soon" all the time, and the misleading link that seemed to be to race coverage but was in fact a live ticker. I could get Señal to work most times.

I agree on the music choices of Revista Mundo Ciclistico, it's their biggest weakness. Would have liked a bit more "story of the race" captions, to make it a bit more intuitive for those not well versed in the Colombian cycling scene; to say who it is when they attack, maybe how far to go etc.

I read they are going through the state of caldas where the alto letras is and it's a very small state, so I hope they put it in. last time was 2007 when botero put up a show where only ortega could follow, but was destroyed in an incredible downhil of botero.

It looks like they are not doing letras. Stage 4 will include La Línea and then the route continues to Bogotá.

Nice thread.

I think it was Hitch who suggested that this tour be placed at years end, where it could also be made a 3 week GT. Sounds like a good idea as TDF riders could ride that instead of the Vuelta, as often they have not recovered by September.

Anyone know much about why cycling is so popular in Columbia and not other South American nations?

the letras is 81 km long, is incredible. it goes from 400 metres to around 3700 metres above sea level.

there are also flat sprint stages but sprints are more unregular here and less controlled

they had to have the worst build up ever. screwerd basically everything up but finally up and running. I'm really looking forward to see if soliz can make the switch to europe. the guy is 25 and has already made a movie about him covering his life. he is already the greatest cyclist ever from there and has almost physically limitless potential in the mountains, but the mind of a rujano/ludo diercksens crossed, as his nickname el volcano implies

No Rujano. They have decided it's too close to giro. he will focus all on vuelta venezuela one month later in july.

incredible startlists once again but horrible course with only 3 mountainstages :( and no mountain finishes

I bolded names that are leaders in the teams

Why no Venezuelans in the Movistar lineup? Too close to the Vuelta a Venezuela? The Venezuelans are some of the best riders that team has.

Only 3 mountain stages and no MTFs? It's like they're trying to hand it to Sevilla and Henao since they've been smoking everyone in the ITTs.

I notice that the Buffalo is back too.

"Or 2009 winner Jose Rujano who put up arguably the greatest show ever seen in this race. but will he have something left in the tank after winning the giro??"

I had to lol right there.

Wasn't this in August last year by the way?
