This coverage is terrible. Though its better than nothing. Why are they just randomly showing buses on that road?

Colombian race coverage is always like that. There aren't enough cameramen's motorcycles, so they have to put mustly static cameras. The topography and the production doesn't help, tho. To make things worse, the budget is quite low, so even to have a chopper covering the race is most of the time a non affordable luxury.

Me thinks barriers might be a good idea in the final kilometres of sprint stages

that was insane.

That was quite hectic, yes. But it is a lack of organization too, because barriers are mandatory for quite some distance before and after the finish line. There wasn't anything like that. People were all over the place.

ahha, people don't like barriers, it's crazy!! _O_ I always see people running in front of road and it always goes well :p

vuelta guatemala is perhaps most crazy of all in terms of crowds. riders can barely see finish from all the flags, and papers in the air

still I don't understand why countrys like brazil, mexico and uruguay have perfect tv transmision for races with helicopters etc while budgets are higher it makes no sense as cycling is so big in colombia :(

They should sell the rights (or whatever they have) to ASO. Honestly, they can make this event bigger. It is already rich in action. It just need some more money and a proper marketing.

That's because cycling in Colombia isn't as big as you think it is. Cycling fans are somewhat old people, while younger people rarely follow the sport. Cycling was greatly followed by the 80's and the beginning of the 90's. After that, it was all downhill.

GT's broadcasting was common back a few years, but then they stopped doing that. Actually, it is just recently cycling broadcasting has slightly returned (not totally, in any case, because, unlike last year, this year there wasn't broadcasting of the Giro, so it will probably be limited to Dauphiné, Tour, Vuelta a Colombia and perhaps Vuelta a España). People aren't interested, it is just that.

For example, a review on the number of comments for some sports news on sunday in the biggest newspaper of Colombia. Sunday's big sport news on the paper was a local football match. 150 people commented on that news. Next, it was Montoya getting a 7th place in some Nascar thing. 30 people commented. What about Soler's victory? 6 people commented that news. Nobody shared the link on twitter, nobody recommended the news on facebook (in a country with 6,3 million people registered on facebook the only link of that particular news was by Soler himself ) and only 40 people posted congratulations messages on his wall (many of them, band wagoners).

It is even sadder if you read news about La Vuelta a Colombia. Not a single comment on today's stage. 3 comments on yesterday's stage.

People around this forum know quite well Duarte, Soler, Urán and even less typical colombian riders, while in Colombia you wouldn't easily find someone who has heard about them. Even my father, who was a huge cycling fan in the 80's, doesn't know who Soler is. Not because he stopped watching sports, but because now he only watches football.

La Vuelta a Colombia is great. A lovely thing to watch. But, to be fair, it doesn't have the fans it deserves.

I wouldn't say that. look at how many people greeted nairo quintana in bogota airport after him winning tour de avenir. cycling is biggest sport in colombia for common people. football stadiums are empty while cycling races are crowded beyond believe. tv and media give more attention to football yes, but still colombian cyclists become sportsman of year or even of century like martin cochise

and how many comments an article has in a newspaper says nothing about how many have read it, or who. cycling isn't popular in carribean area but, most people live in antioqia where henao is a national hero. victor hugo pena once explained in an interview after some dumb journalist asked him if he and rujano were known in their countrys. rujano started laughing and pena said, cycling in colombia is like in flanders and in venezuela like in netherlands so everyone knows us yes.

I know a lot of Dutchies who have no clue who Lars Boom, Langeveld or even Gesink are.

While it's safe to say that in Belgium everyone knows Phil, Boonen, Steegmans and Jurgen van den Broeck.

They have done it in the past, why not do it now? It worked in the past for few years. I am sure some riders will come if the conditions are right.

Greg Lemond, Hampsten, Pascal Simon, Laurent Fignon. I am not counting the ones that came to the world championship because that is not correct.

But seriously, cycling popularity came down after the early 90's. I am sure that if we start to get good results we can start to promote our races better.

The only reason why you see no big European names is because they can't be arsed about winning it(no prestige if you're not from the South American cycling scene).

Giro was also hard and long, but had enough big names.

This.

Plus the race is totally unimportant to good cyclists outside of South America. :)

the ttt has started, so far fastest half way is movistar ct 11 km in 12:10, 10 seconds faster than gw shimano who had a crash in the first corner :( meaning antioquia will now probably own this
