Hasn't Cavendish said for the past two years leading up to San-Remo that he's been sick?

Freaking Garmin. As much as I wanted Haussler to win, I had to come to terms that it's Garmin and he wouldn't win.

Also, it's not exact but from the video it took 6.45 for Van Avermaet from the start of the Poggio to the left-hand turn that starts the descent with the favorites being about 20 seconds faster on the climb

The record is about 5.45 as far as i know

That is some podium. I wonder how it feels to stand over Cancellara and Gilbert. Congrats to Goss. He is going to be the best classics rider the sport has seen in a LONG time.

I wonder if we are seeing a pattern emerging in M-SR: this year, as last year, the climb that had the biggest impact on the race was not Cipressa or Poggio but Le Manie. When it was first in the race in '08 I think the riders didn't really know what to do with it and just soft pedalled over, but for the past two editions the peloton has charged full gas up Le Manie and exploded. Unless the sprinter's teams really get organised for it next year I think we could see the same kind of race again.

Actually, it was the descent not the climb that caused the selection. If it"s dry then no problems

But you got to admit, you gotta love the passion of hatred the Sporza guys feel towards Pozatto. They really talk smack about him in any race he enters :p

Pozatto is a wheelsucker. I would support anybody over him, even Thor. ;)

What an exciting end to the race last night. I have to say I was cheering on Yoann Offredo in his last ditch attempts to try and win.

I've been critical of Pozzato in past races, but I had no issue with his race today. He chased down a move that could have ended his chances. I understand that Gilbert doesn't appreciate that move, but too bad. Pozzato wasn't there to support Gilbert and he figured he had no chance if he let the move go. It turned out he didn't have the gas to push on and all he accomplished was to bring the others up to Gilbert. Well that sucks for Gilbert but that's racing. If Pozzato had attacked after reaching Gilbert we'd probably be applauding his effort.

Just watched Fox Sports Morning News on Fox SPorts News on foxtel (aussie paytv and designated sports news channel) and not one mention of Matt Goss' win, they did show Six Nations Rugby though, why would we care about that ffs!

It should be on Eurosport News. I started watching on Eurosport with 70km, then fell asleep with 45km to go, and woke up with 8km to go.

It was on eurosport news was expecting foxsports to mention something but unless cuddles wins something they usually don't mention cycling.

Unless they talk about TDU that is.

Well they don't show all races. They do show all of the major classics & GTs though. I think they also show some of the week long stage races (PN, TA, Dauphine etc.)

They show all of the races that count and a few more. They also showed the Tour of Langawi and quite a lot of the track series and world titles on the track. Tour of Qatar, Tour of Oman and others. Worth subscribing to if you are a keen fan.

SBS Sport always shows the finish even if Aussies don't win. Eurosport shows a bit more on their news.

Yeah that's why I'm hoping so hard that Pozzato wins in Flanders by wheelsucking some Belgians until the end to then narrowly win in the sprint.

I can't wait to see Vannieuwkerke going nuts

not only Karl, the whole nation would rise up against him :p

Nothing on ABC news actually. Nothing on World Wide of Sports which goes for an hour...can't say I am not surprised.

Well, you ARE the official news breaker of the Contador Clenbuterol story, so why don't you become the official news breaker of the Matt Goss win at Milan San Remo?

So, if Cuddles was to walk around in Australia, no one would recognize him? Cool.

Oh well, it happens in Italy as well. Some stranger came up to Oscar Freire in Varese not so long ago(he chilling out on a terrace with a teammate) and told him he had a crappy season last year. A teammate of Oscar replied he had won Milan-San Remo last year and Paris-Tours as well. The stranger said "Yeah, but you didn't win any stages at the Tour". Oscar wisely remained silent then.

Oh well, now the season is really started, so no Aussie will win anymore Protour races :p

He would be recognised. He's had alot of outside cycling publicity because of his TDF exploits. TDF is about as much as the average sports fan here cares about cycling.

I told you all (generally speaking) SBS + smh would be the only ones to report on it.

Yes it was actually. Compared to Tirreno, the quality was better (doubt you'd get better from a paid tv internet stream) and had only a few interruptions compared to Tirreno where it loved to freeze constantly.

Very tempted to re-learn Italian again :)

All major networks seem to have run stories during the day and/or this evening. 3 or 4am on Sunday morning is not a good time for sporting news if it is to be run in the media a little later that morning - at least for minor sports such as cycling.

Ah late reply here. Only just watched the race.

Wow! What a great race this was. Helped by a crash on the descent, but I wouldn't mind if that happes more often if it helps a race like this.

Yesterday was the day that a sprinter couldn't win M-SR, but Goss managed to win anyways. Very very impressive. If you look at the first 8.... no if you only look at the podium. He was on the top with Cancellara and Gilbert next to him. So this guy was in a group of 8 at the finish with monument winners and future cycling legends. Well if he managed that then he certainly ain't just a sprinter. He might as well become a cycling legend in the future.

Ofcourse Pozzato had to help him a bit, but besides that 1 time Goss closed some gaps as well. I haven't read this thread yet, but I'm sure there will be a lot of talk about Pozzato again. He's still doing the same as last years and once again it isn't helping him at all. He should start attacking himself instead of suckign wheels. He isn't going to win anything this way and destroys the chances of other big favourites.

BMC had a strong performance again as well. They are looking better then last year so far that's for sure.

Gilbert didn't seem to be at this very best as well. His attacks on the Poggio weren't very impressive.

Scarponi made my jaw drop to the floor twice. First riding to the first group on his own and then actually starting the sprint in that final group of 8. Most impressive performance this season :)

Offredo once again making a great performance as well. He's going to be a rider that will spice races up the next 10 years.
