I dont think pozzato was stupid this time, in my opinion he made a small mistake in chasing gilbert, but I also think if he didnt he would have? I think Pozzato is not strong enough to escape on the hill or the flat so he was doing all he could have to win, unfortunatley for him I think he was too slow to react to gilbert and was off his wheel and just wasted his energy and that killed him for the final sprint, I think if pozzato didnt chase then gilbert would have had a very good chance of winning and pozzato could have got a higher placing..

i think pozzatos biggest problem in milan san remo is that he isn't good enough at anything to be a regular contendor, he cant drop guys on the flat or in the sprint or in the hills... But i think he did good here

Can't believe the blunders from Sky'n Garmin road-cap's today! Holy bejeezus! Lookin' at each other, believing EBH'n Haussler would be viable options today, without support.
Arvesen and Klier should be flogged !

I've been thinking about these teams' races today. Its easy to say what they didn't do, but I can't say what they should have done besides simply going faster, right-place, right-time kind of thing. It looked like an issue of apathy more than anything, but they messed up in a way that is easy to correct... I hope.

In the same vain, Pippo tried and failed. Bummer. Luckily there's a few more races left in the season.

Goss would have closed it or at least tried. He already countered Cancellara.

Instead of dealing with the problem called Goss, everyone marked Gilbert.

maybe he would have, but it is impossible to say, I think pozzato should not have chased gilbert the way he did, but if he didn't who would?... Goss only followed wheels the whole race(great ride by him), so for pippo he had to make choice and it was a very hard choice, I think it was best for him not to chase so hard but the margin for error was so small it was very hard for him, I think he did ok in this race, no need to call him stupid or anything.

Heh, I tipped Haussler or Goss before the race because I was sure another Aussie would win...and Goss it was :D

Most exciting MSR in years. Love the Belgian Sporza guys crying about Pozzato for another half hour. Pozzato is quickly becoming my favorite rider for ****ing off the Belgians :p

I wonder if we are seeing a pattern emerging in M-SR: this year, as last year, the climb that had the biggest impact on the race was not Cipressa or Poggio but Le Manie. When it was first in the race in '08 I think the riders didn't really know what to do with it and just soft pedalled over, but for the past two editions the peloton has charged full gas up Le Manie and exploded. Unless the sprinter's teams really get organised for it next year I think we could see the same kind of race again.

Shamelessly stolen link

Looks like most of the group (2:30 in the video) was together over the climb and it was the descent that did the most damage

Until a 40 year old Pozatto ruins Wout Poels his chances of winning Lombardia or something :p

But I predicted an Aussie win as well. And I have no problem with Goss being the winner.

It's not like we Dutch have anything to cheer about in a classic like San Remo btw.

I cheered for Van Avermaet. Really hoped he would make it. But you know it's impossible.

But you got to admit, you gotta love the passion of hatred the Sporza guys feel towards Pozatto. They really talk smack about him in any race he enters :p

Yeah that's why I'm hoping so hard that Pozzato wins in Flanders by wheelsucking some Belgians until the end to then narrowly win in the sprint.

I can't wait to see Vannieuwkerke going nuts

lmao, that would be funny

Just give up. All those kangaroo skipping bunch of criminals care about is random sports like aussie football, and all those american sports

They mentioned:
-AFL when there have been no games this week
-The Local NRL team who only just won
-The f1 which starts in a week
-The EPL which is not australian sport nor does it involve australians.
-The local soccer league of which the season is already over.

Yet no news on matt goss winning MSR!

I am also still devastated that Greg got caught on the descent of the poggio.

Does anyone know what Cav looked like when he finished. Happy for his teammate or ****ed off?

I haven't heard ANY coverage or mention of Goss' win in MSR overnight...excuse my language but that's a ****ing disgrace.

Agreed. Total disgrace.

The idea that they are mentioning the fact that some spoilt brat racers who get to play with expensive toys and dont actually have to push themselves to the limit, get to start private little circus (£300 entry to watch from a stand, celebrities and politicians free to mingle amongst the protagonists) next week while ignoring the victory of an Australian worker (for Cav) who killed himself following the most talented athletes in the world is just a disgrace. Inequality is as big in sport as ever.

+1

We might get a bit of coverage of it on sbs (which is a small tv channel in aus) who covers all the cycling and possibly a mention of cadel and matt on a show called Wide World of Sports (Channel 9) but that'll be it.

We'd never have guessed.
I was beginning to think that there was an internet blackout in Holland!;)

Hey and why have you lot cancelled Groene Hart?
Would have been another nice Sunday afternoon.
Things must be getting tight.

So, if Cuddles was to walk around in Australia, no one would recognize him? Cool.

Oh well, it happens in Italy as well. Some stranger came up to Oscar Freire in Varese not so long ago(he chilling out on a terrace with a teammate) and told him he had a crappy season last year. A teammate of Oscar replied he had won Milan-San Remo last year and Paris-Tours as well. The stranger said "Yeah, but you didn't win any stages at the Tour". Oscar wisely remained silent then.

Oh well, now the season is really started, so no Aussie will win anymore Protour races :p

That's probably right, he would'nt get recognized by the general public. That's why he can go out riding with his local club on those nice sunny off season rides down in sunny Torquay (Aus) & enjoy mixing with the average Aussie "Bruce" cyclist. You reckon Boonen, Cav et al could or would want to do that.

PS I heard of Gossy's win on the ABC this morning about 8.00 am, just barely a mention amongst the other clap trap of ball boinging goose events.

You play table tennis? I started to play when I was 6 years old up until last year when I moved to France. In Luxembourg, the matches were always on Saturday nights. What kind of classifications do you have in the Netherlands? We used to have from D40 (beginner) to A which was the best. In the end I was C20 (decent average) and the highest I played was 3rd division. Now they've changed it but I'm not familiar with the new system

I was clearly making a joke about how Aussies have dominated so far.

Those races matter, but Tour Down Under doesn't :p
