Also, Cancellara won the opening time trial in the Tour five times, but not one of those was in France!

So he is also on six:

Giro: None
Tour: Belgium, England, France, Monaco, The Netherlands
Vuelta: The Netherlands, Spain

I've counted five countries for Cipollini, but I may have missed one. He's also won two GT stages which started in the Netherlands, but finished somewhere else.

Giro: Italy, Germany, Luxembourg
Tour: France
Vuelta: Spain

Robbie McEwen has six.

Giro: Italy, France, Belgium
Tour: France, Luxembourg, England, Belgium, Germany

Greipel is also on six.

Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy and Belgium.

Yeah he was my first thought because of the prologue wins but not winning in Giro cost him 7.

I was there in Apeldoorn for the '16 prologue, there were some insane cheers when it was announced Cance had had a mechanical or something

Even crazier, that year was the first time of his 3 starts he rode a TT and not just TTT.

Remember the 62 km 1 hour 38 minute ITT from the 2009 Giro?

Cancellara DNS. Literally that stage.

Dumoulin is on six as well which is pretty good considering he's only won nine GT stages.

Edit: Make that five. I don't know where I got the 6th from. I might have been looking at the results of a different rider.

I think you're right. He's won stages in France, Italy and Spain. Plus Andorra (2016 Tour), Netherlands (2016 Giro), Israel (2018 Giro)

Win number 160! 3 more and second all time according to PCS.

From Peta’s Instagram story so won’t last long of Casper showing his dad how to smile after winning.

Yes but it also wasn’t a stage that he could win and even he stated as much “Reigning Olympic time trial champion Fabian Cancellara called it "crazy" and laughed when asked if he would be a contender for victory.”
Probably even crazier he never really featured in any road stage with his capabilities.

Kittel won in seven countries if you count England and Northern Ireland separately:

Giro: Northern Ireland, Ireland, The Netherlands
Tour: France, England, Belgium
Vuelta: Spain

A pity that he won a couple of stages in Tirreno in 2018, otherwise he would have finished his career with four Giro stage wins but no wins on Italian soil ever.
Pretty crazy statistical quirk with Kittel and one that shows how unimaginative most early stages of 'Away' Grand tour starts are. The only comparable quirky stat is the back to back Paris-Nice GC wins from Schachmann in which he never reached Nice.

Let's throw in Ciolek's Milan San Remo, which did indeed go from Milan to San Remo, but some of it by team bus.
